Fans worldwide fell head over heels for Ben Platt during his Tony® Award-winning turn in the title role of Dear Evan Hansen and on-screen in films such as the Pitch Perfect franchise. As the vocalist, actor, and performer sang life into a host of nuanced and fascinating characters, audiences embraced his voice wholeheartedly. By dusting off the piano, picking up a pen, and singing his own truth straight from the heart, he shared another side of himself as a solo artist.

Ben achieved superstar status as Evan Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen, originating the lead role. The New York Times lauded him as a “breakout star,” and he went on to receive the 2017 Tony® Award for “Best Actor in a Musical.” Other honors included “Best Musical Theater Album” at the 2018 GRAMMY® Awards for the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Dear Evan Hansen, “Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program” at the Daytime EMMY® Awards for a cast performance of “You Will Be Found” on The Today Show, and more. Not to mention, he joined forces with Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda to craft a mash-up of “The Story of Tonight” and “You Will Be Found,” benefiting the “March for Our Lives” anti-gun violence movement.

Signed to Atlantic Records by Chairman and C.E.O. Craig Kallman and President of A&R Pete Ganbarg, he explored his formative influences, ranging from timeless singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Carole King to legendary crooners like Donny Hathaway, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder. As a result, the music delivers confessional lyricism by way of soulful intimacy as part of one cohesive narrative on his 2019 full-length debut, Sing To Me Instead. The 12-track album, which was primarily produced by Jenn Decilveo, chronicles the highs and lows of a transformative relationship. Showcasing his story, Ben penned several songs solo and co-wrote the remainder of material alongside the likes of Ben Abraham, Eg White, Nate Cyphert, Michael Pollack, and more.

I’m too emotionally fragile to have just discovered Ben’s music.

Think about how lucky we are to be able to live at the same time as Ben Platt, just think about it.

Lyrics:

I was walking down 57th street towards Park
With the same old song in my same old heart
Making plans I'm gonna do when I get older
Passed a gray-haired man and I found his eyes
It's like he knew my thoughts and he read my mind
Saying life is gonna find you when it's supposed to
Felt my feet stop short and I turned my head
Tried to lean into every word he said
Then he said
When you are younger
You'll wish you're older
Then when you're older
You'll wish for time to turn around
Don't let your wonder turn into closure
When you get older
When you get older
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Have I killed my thoughts right before their prime?
Have I bit my tongue one too many times
Have I said it all the way I really meant to?
If I wait 'til my tomorrow comes
Is the waiting all I've ever done?
And will I get to
Get to know myself in the place I am
Get to fall in love with another man and understand
When you are younger
You'll wish you're older
Then when you're older
You'll wish for time to turn around
Don't let your wonder turn into closure
When you get older
When you get older
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
When you are younger
You'll wish you're older
Then when you get older
You'll wish for time to turn around
Don't let your wonder turn into closure
When you get older
When you get older
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh

Also, if you’re reading this and you’re watching this video because you’re hurting: you’ll be okay. life really, really sucks sometimes. music helps us find hope in relating. give things time, give yourself a break, and try to get out of the rut. “I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I have been”
You can do this. I have so much love for you! If you need to chat, my instagram is @MckenzieLiberty <3

I'm 64 years old. Getting old has been difficult because of illnesses. A few months ago, I came across these words; "I will never complain about getting old again, because I know so many who didn't have that privilege." So many in my life died so young. I cry for them.

When you’re turning 17 soon and realize you’re not going to be a kid forever and then you listen to this and it hits because you’re scared about growing up.

To everyone scared of growing up:

I'm 18 now but last year when I was 17 I moved states for uni. I started to live alone and have my own life.
It's hard, incredibly hard, but it has moments where you stop and realize that now you're fully on control. It's scary. If you don't go to the supermarket you won't have food, if you don't go to class no one will be mad but guess who will have to deal with the consequences?
A quote I love: "it's ok to change (grow in this case) as long as you remember all the people you used to be" - Doctor who

You got this. You'll make many mistakes but you'll learn from them, like all of us do.
Take this as an opportunity to blossom into the person you always wanted to be. It's exciting

I’ve loved this ever since it came out as I’ve been a fan of Ben’s for years. And I’d just like to say thank you to this song for truly helping me so much.

My health started going downhill when I was 10, and now 6 years later I’m severely ill and disabled. I’ve lost all of my teenage years and I’m likely to not be here much longer. When I was 14 I was very depressed about my situation and was waiting for it to improve because I thought that was the only way for me to be happy. Then I heard this song and realised that that outlook would only bring along more pain and hurt, since I’m incurable.

So I decided to make the most of the present and enjoy what little I have left. And whilst being bedbound and living in hospital, I taught myself all my GCSE’s without the help of teachers and achieved A*’s, I set up my own online charity to help others, I’ve read hundreds of books, and I’m also now fluent in 4 languages. So now I know if I do end up losing the fight that my short life hasn’t been a waste and I won’t be able to regret anything. Ive defied everyone’s expectations of what is possible for me to do and I intend to carry on :)

The woman's story hit me hard. Before my grandma died I always played the piano with her and after she passed I couldn't bring myself to ever play because of the memories And the reminder she was no longer here. The pain would hurt when I'd see the piano of hers I grew up with, but this past year I realized playing was a way that made me feel like she was here. I could feel the passion I once felt, and tho there was still the pain of missing her....it was bittersweet because it was something I know she'd want me to continue

"Life is gonna find you when its supposed to."
As someone who has some self identity issues and social anxiety issues
This is very comforting
Thanks, Ben for existing,
Sincerely me
*Edit: Thank you so much for all of the likes and comments, it's nice to know I'm not the only one going through what I'm going through. I guess the lyrics aren't the only comforting thing about this video. Thanks a bunch, .... again.
