This made me think of the way that batiks or Fabergé eggs are dyed, which I think would make a super interesting yarn

Oh, Rebecca! Considering our convo this week, I find it super ironic that I had not yet seen this video somehow and that youtube suggested it to me after today's video. This is SIMPLY gorgeous, and I'm a certain fan of the technique. I hadn't considered zip ties for the resist, but it makes SO MUCH SENSE! plus, you get larger areas of resist then I would expect with yarn ties. The only possible thing that could make this a better galaxy is if the yarn had stelina in it, but the acid might be too much for it. Gorgeous colorway, and probably the best indie dyed galaxy yarn I've ever seen.

"It looks a little bit like a chromosome right now." Seriously, you are so adorable. That made me laugh! I was looking at my crochet when you made that comment and had to instantly look up.

This is my favourite recent video. The extra little tips and how the yarn worked out are great. I would love to see more swatches with yarns you have dyed though please

This is SO pretty! I like how the "black" isn't completely opaque so that the gradient shows up underneath, especially the area where the two skeins were bound together, causing more resist between them.

I was thinking the same thing while you were putting the resist ties in, that it looked like a chromosome. LOL!

And that end result! Oooooh MAH GAWD, so gorgeous!!!

Very pretty! I think it would be pretty to twist the yarn and over dye it to get more resist areas.

I agree food coloring is a lot cheaper then starting straight out with all the professional dyes and the xtra needed equipment.
Beautiful colorway

Any chance you could show how this works up? I've always been curious how long the stripes are when you do the broken violet dip dye. This is going to be my first dye I attempt

I wonder if the mark could be a little bit of burnt/melted zip tie? Probably lower temp needed to damage the zip ties than the yarn.
The yarn turned out beautiful!
