There seems to be a great debate on this verse today. My question is, why did Paul confront Peter on this very matter?

Peters vision wasn't primarily directed by God at the jewish eating laws but at his soon visit to Cornelius and his guests.
Many times there is whats called the Law of Repetition operating in scripture based on the fact that the scriptures will repeat something said and/ or an event three times to:
1) Direct our attention to an important spiritual truth.
2) To establish a precedent to where the same circumstance need not be repeated in exactly the same way each time in scripture that it occures.
Three times the sheet was let down before Peter with the unclean animals. When Peter responded to Gods command to kill and eat that he had never eaten anything unclean, God said, " What God hath cleaned call not thou uncommon( unclean).
The Greek word for " hath cleansed" is past tense meaning that something has already been cleansed beforehand and is now clean.
The Lord is speaking of the gentiles Peter is soon to visit. This cleansing was a spiritual cleansing that could have only occured through the remission of sins during water baptism.
My conclusion based on these facts is the reason that the gentiles recieved the Holy Spirit before Peter had them water baptized is that they had already recieved remission of sins( cleansing) because they had previously been baptzed by John the baptist and when the Lord shed His blood on Calvary all those that had been baptized by John recieved remission of sins.

Why wasn't Peter just given writing on a wall, "MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN" meaning "The gospel is for everyone, not just for Jewish people. It is for gentiles too. I came to save everyone ?" I'll give you an interesting comparison between Matthew 7v10 Which one of you if his son asks for a fish will give him a snake" and then we find Acts 10v12 where Peter sees a tablecloth being lowered with reptiles ( snakes ?) on it and the Lord tells Peter kill and eat. So what if Peter had replied, "Well i'd rather have fish and chips with tomato ketchup please". The funny thing about this is that the vision could have been a table cloth with New World foods like potatoes, tomatoes, turkey, chocolate, squash, maize and the message could have been to set sail across the Atlantic and there he would find the peoples of the Americas who were needing to be saved by hearing the gospel. Peter's ship would be guided by a vision of Christ and Peter's reward would be to eat these New World foods. History shows over 1400 years went by before the Americas were discovered by the Europeans

Hello my friend, I have a mentioned that it is important to note that this vision Peter had was 7-10 years after Yahshua ascended in Acts this also not mean that it is now 7-10 years after Yahshua commanded them after resurrecting to "Go to all the nations and teach them, and baptize them in his name" "some doubted" of the 11 disciples present in Matthew 28, meaning Peter has been in Israel for 7-10 years and not doing what Yahshua commanded since all authority was now given to it possible that since Peter was preplexed thinking but the men at the door caused him to be "hasty to leave the kings presence" Eccl 8, because the King was doing whatever he it also possible seeing that Satan was testing Peter "sniff him like wheat"....that since Yahshua told Peter planely he would deny him 3 times that day before the cock crowed" (No metaphor used) and he did deny Elohim would not now use a Metaphor as no Metaphor was used in Leviticus to convey the food law would he tell Elohim no?....seeing he already has said "no" to going to all the nations in an era with no mass transit?
