Learn about the instruments we use to measure voltage and current. Created by David SantoPietro.

Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Holy crap this literally saved so much of time. Rather than going through threads online about my question, which is: "Why are voltmeters connected in parallel and ammeters connected in series?", i just came across this really helpful video that absolutely made sense to me. The explanation was just straight forward: Ammeter, measuring the current through the wire while Voltmeter: measuring the voltage between two particular points. Thank you so much for putting effort into your videos to help those in need. Great job.

It is so exiting to relearn the lost knowledge. With big AHA! That is why I love physics. Discovering how things work is such a bless.

great video.. If anyone was wondering/ didn't know, placing the probes at any one spot of the circuit would give you a reading of 0v since the two probes are measuring the same energy potential.. So if you measure before the load/resistor of a 9v battery, you would have 9v-9v = 0 or if you measure post load/resistor/ (i.e. neutral wire) you would for all intensive purpose have 0v -0v = 0v.. This is why you can hang from power lines and not get shocked; however, once you touch any conductor that is connected to the earth it would be really bad..

Thank you for showing us a video of what you're doing while showing a drawn circuit. So much easier to comprehend what is going on while also looking at the illustration.

Odd way of explaining things with your curser and dragging things around but definitely works. I learned a lot from this. Thanks. Have my thumbs up.

OMG. thanks so much. I've been listening to a really famous korean lecturer and just couldn't wrap my head around this. and it takes 8 minutes to understand it perfectly here.

i am so so so happy i found this video all does circuit diagram saying V is connected in parallel and A is connected in series. i never full understood. i always tried to imagine it but still confused me but when i watched this video it was all clearly the part that explained the iceberg is when you said 'the component E.g wire, you want to measure the current of, has to be disconnected apart from eachother, then connect the ammeter at the two side(left-Right) ' that sentence only explained the word in ''series'' that i hadn't understand. Thank you.

Your a cool dude! Electrical field will teach your everything you don't need to know to do the job. The resistance of the meter no one ever speaks of. Thanks

Life saver oh my god I literally cannot understand my teacher's diagrams esp when he doesn't even explain what the heck is going on. Thanks a million, I can clear things up now.
