If I'm playing the White Sox, I ask myself how they got a guy all the way to second in the first place.

Pitchers can be 200iq,
Pitchers can be -200iq

"making it easier for the White Sox to score" feels like an oxymoron 😂

Even more devious strategy.

Instruct runners to signal nonsense to the batter.

Enjoy psychological chaos and free balks.

This is just like the orioles and marlins when Kimbrel dropped up with bell at 2nd and burger at the plate

I was at that game!! It was so weird watching it but in hindsight I guess it makes sense

Also, the runner doesn’t have to take the base. But seeing that Maldonado is a soup sandwich, probably good idea to take the free 90 feet.

Kenley Jansen did the same thing a few years ago. He told the blue ahead of time that he was going to balk and it worked out.

To answer the question the pitcher needs to do what the manager says. This is a really smart move by the manager. You see the attempted sign stealing in almost all levels of competition. As a former catcher I would have called time to talk to my pitcher and completely switch up the call signs. Tbh I'm a little disappointed that the catcher didn't notice himself.

As a White Sox fan, I can assure you my team isn’t smart enough to steal signs, let alone steal any wins this season.

I am a pitcher, and you have to talk to your catcher and you can swipe down your thigh to go to the next pitch or you can tell your catcher whatever you put down for a signal it's going to be the pitch that you would call in the next number. There's a lot of things you can do.

You're a natural, keep doing what you do

Kenley Jansen invented this strategy a few years ago. The difference was that he was up by two, so they’d still have the lead if the runner scored. This is too risky if you’re moving the tying run to third.

Maybe attempt a pick off to catch the runner off guard ?

The games within the game are what makes this the greatest game

As a pitcher you have to try your hardest to hide the ball and your hand if you dig in hard when throwing a curve ball then you have to dig in hard on every pitch to keep your motion the same also having a nice big glove helps hide things

I would hide my pitches better and talk to my catcher to change the signs for pitches. I always laid my glove over my stomach so nobody could see and my wind up was almost always the same. At least until I ripped my shoulder out of socket in a 3 weeler accident. That ended any slim chance I had a baseball career. 😢

It was a good call. They call 2nd base scoring position for a reason. Almost any hit would have been a run

Dude, it’s the white Sox who cares if they’re stealing signs.
