So interesting how different they can look without fundamentally changing their bodyplan or body parts; I keep mealworms as feeders and have always wondered how exactly they become pupae. Thank you for this!

i feed my bearded dragon mealworms, and lately have seen a few go into this pupae stage. i’ve been keeping them to watch them grow into beetles, can’t wait to see them as beetles :>

Ive just started a mealworm colony and a fair few have turned into pupae, from watching closely ive managed to work out when a mealworm is very close to turning into pupae, not only the C shape but the little black lines going down the side of the mealworm are the black edges of the pupae, spot them and thats when you know pupae are immanent 😊 not sure if anyone is aware of this?

My mealworm peaked the skin so it’s a pupa now!
