Why Metallica keep ignoring them?

Metallica has always been a band which tries to not only play live their most popular tunes, such as Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman or Master of Puppets. And yet with more than 160 songs in Metallica catalogue, there are still quite a bunch of songs that the Metal legends have never played live, and if in case of some of them it's pretty understandable, others remain a hidden gem of the Metallica catalog… so let's take a look at all of them!

We will discuss the songs Metallica never played or rarely played from each of their albums, starting with Kill em All and up until 72 Seasons, talking about the songs Escape and To Live is to Die live, and songs from Load, ReLoad, St. Anger and Hardwired to Self Destruct that the band has never performed on stage, counting them all.

And which song out of the ones Metallica never played live do you think the band should perform some time soon?

Which band should we do this exercise next with? ...And why should it be Judas Priest? 😉

Fun fact: Every single song from their first five albums has been played live in the last 14 years except Eye of the Beholder, which was last played in 1989.

I totally share your opinion about "Astronomy". What a song, what a cover version!

"The House Jack Built" never getting played live is a sin!!! It's always been one on my favorites on that album.

Ride The Lightning was also my first Metallica album. I traded Motley Crue’s Theater Of Pain, which I had just bought and hated, for a copy of RTL on a blank cassette. Best decision I ever made.

I genuinely LOVE Escape. One of my most favorite songs Metallica has ever made to be completely honest

My first Metallica album was Reload in 1999. I was a child and I loved every minute of it. My second was Ride the Lightning. What a strange journey it was to go back in time!

Escape is super underrated. Very unique in terms of composition compared to a lot of their early catalog

I saw Metallica in 1988 when I was 15, then again in '92 or '93, and I was so disappointed they didn't play Trapped Under Ice. It's always been one of my favs.

You forgot -Human. There were two new songs on S&M. To be fair, No Leaf Clover is by far the superior track. But -Human has barely ever been played.

I'd love to hear them play the Ronnie Rising medley.

Jason, Kirk and James have actually jammed "Where the wild Things Are" as Bass/Guitar Doodle in 1998.

I’m glad we got that dvd along with St. Anger playing the whole album Live in studio. Great stuff!

There is one song that you didn’t mention that would be amazing for them to play live.

That Ronnie Rising Medley off the Dio tribute album, that song is fire.

I think you have to appreciate how many times the average fan will see them live. They might be able to manage once in 5 years or maybe once in 10! So playing the best known tracks is always the top priority but I agree, mix it up more. Make each show musically special in some way and deep cuts is probably the way 🤘🤘
