Andantino by Matteo Carcassi - Grade 2 Repertoire for Classical Guitar

This piece has quickly become a favorite at the CGC Academy. It has a very comfortable right hand fingering that allows the player to experiment with tempo rubato and the harmony sounds nice and “full” on the instrument.

This piece has short, clear phrases that I encourage you to shape with dynamics and rubato. The melody should be clear and singing.

In the first and last phrase you can crescendo when the melody rises, and decrescendo when it falls. In the second phrase (measures four to nine) we see some accidentals color the harmony. Feature these moments by playing them a little louder and then relax your dynamics when returning to the following chord. A wonderful example of how classical music is really the ebb and flow from tension to relaxation.

Hi, I was looking at the repertoire book and was wondering if the tab edition comes with the sheet music as well? Like standard notation on top and corresponding tab underneath.

I am rather getting used to this, Saturday mornings with Simon. This is also an extra bonus for me, being a Grade 2 student. 😁👍

This was the first piece they taught me at the musical school to play on the classical guitar :) They taught me to play it a lot slower, though.
