Propellerhead Record + Line 6 Recording Interfaces

Line 6's Propellerhead Product Specialist Matt Piper demonstrates the additional functionality available when using Line 6 recording interfaces with Propellerhead Record.

Please note that the software used in this video was Record Reason Duo by Propellerhead. That product has since been replaced by Reason 6.5. Reason 6.5 has everything you see in the video plus powerful new features including new effects devices, thousands of new presets, sounds, and loops, and support for 3rd-party Rack Extensions.

POD Farm is amp/cabinet/preamp/effects emulation software. The iLok version works in Pro Tools, Cubase, Live, Logic, GarageBand, Sonar, etc. The ToneDirect (standalone) version shown in the video is a special treat for owners of the Line 6 recording interfaces shown in the video. iLok version owners not using Line 6 interfaces can still open POD Farm presets in Record, but they can't monitor through POD Farm while recording with Record in the way shown in the video.

@emef44 That is correct - just set the Left and Right markers, and turn on the Loop button. You will only hear the current take (the loop pass currently being recorded), and whatever other tracks are in your song. When you are done recording, all of the takes (each pass through the loop) will be editable.

As long as you use our latest driver, POD Studio GX is fully compatible with Windows 7.

On Windows, installing the latest version of POD Farm also installs our latest drivers.

A good rule of thumb to keep in mind regarding computer peripherals: Since you never know how long an item has been on a shelf prior to purchase, it is always a good idea to start by downloading the latest software & drivers rather than installing from the included disc. :)

POD Studio UX1 does not have an input level control for the guitar input. It is a fixed level. So, I just turned my guitar all the way up and plugged it into UX1. If you are recording from the line output of your amp, it should be plugged into the line level input of an audio interface, rather than a microphone input or an instrument input. I hope that helps.

@busterboxer86 Yes, is works with POD X3 (desktop). You may also want to watch the video entitled: "Propellerhead Record + Line 6 POD X3 Live. " You can follow those instructions with your POD X3 as well.

@SamForrestTube Yes, you can connect the outputs of the POD Studio audio interface (or other POD device) to a pair of inputs on your Behringer. You could also connect outputs from the Behringer to the line inputs on a POD Studio interface if you wanted to.

@line6movies My previous answer assumed that you have another DAW besides Record (such as Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, etc.). If not, then the answer to your original question "can I just use my patches in Pod Farm in the Line6 Rack in Record?" remains yes. You can open the file browser for the Line 6 device in Record, and browse to the folder where the POD Farm patches are stored, and load those into Record's Line 6 rack device, without ever launching POD Farm at all.

@thestonejar Actually you would locate the .wav file in the file browser on the left of the Ableton Live window, and drag the file into a slot on an audio track in the Session view, or onto the timeline of an audio track in the Arrangement view. (Click TAB to toggle between the two views.) If you need more help figuring this out, I suggest clicking "Read the Live Manual" in the "Help" menu in Ableton Live, as a shortcut to familiarizing yourself with the operation of the software.

@alalange You need to have Propellerhead Record software in addition to Reason in order to record audio. Either Reason 4.0 + Record 1.0, or Reason 5.0 + Record 1.5.

@yesterdaysview If you have an iLok, there is a 15-day free trial that can be downloaded from the Line 6 website. The iLok version only works as a plug-in and will not work standalone. For the basic version of POD Farm 2 (original POD Farm shown in this video is no longer sold) that works with TonePort GX (and works standalone or as a plug-in), the cost is $49. (POD Farm 2 Platinum is $249.) The non-iLok versions I just mentioned have 30-day money-back guarantees, and are downloadable.

@thestonejar What action do you take, and where does the error occur? You press RiffWorks' "Export" button, and choose one of the .wav options, not the .rwr option, right? Is a .wav file exported? Do you try to import it into Ableton and it doesn't work? Ableton should be able to import any .wav file, as far as I know.

Reason Adapted will not import .wav files. It is a MIDI sequencing application and does not record or import audio.

I hope this helps.

Reason will never tell you that you need to download Line 6 Monkey. Monkey must be popping up for some other cause directly related to Line 6. Line 6 Monkey is just used for making sure your Line 6 drivers and software are up to date. Reason is made by Propellerhead and cannot be updated with Line 6 Monkey.

ok, i have a really strange ask. at the very end of this tutorial, there is a mixed track that demos guitar from the tutorial. I am especially interested in the sound that is played in addition to the guitars. It sounds like a synthesizer with some sort of starburst, swishy drone effect. My question is: How was that sound created and what software/synth effect was used?

Reason is not able to send automation information to POD Farm. Sorry I can't help you more in that regard, but I hope it saves a bit of time to know, at least. :)

So can you loop without a pedal in reason. For instance you pick your start and ending point for your loop and then play and it automatically loops?
