This song has always hit me deep. I'm someone who has suffered from depression and anxiety since I hit puberty. Wearing a mask and fooling the world is exactly what I did instead of confronting my emotions and accepting myself. Pretending like I was someone else so I could fit in and be accepted. Then I began to hate myself for being too weak to conquer it. I'm doing so much better now, but I wish that it didn't take this long. If anyone reading this is going through this kind of pain, the kind that makes you want to isolate themselves from society and friends.... please get help. I am a stubborn person and I never did. I'm 30 now. I never got help, but I've learned to cope. I wish I had gotten help when I was young. My life would have been so much better than it is now.

I was around 8 years old when I first heard this song on Disney channel. I always knew that I was different. I got made fun of all through out my childhood for the music I listened to and the things I was interested in. This song had such a deep meaning to me because I knew I was different and the words always hit me deep. I made the words my own. I can still remember being brave enough to sing this to my parents in the back seat of my dad's car... Had Christina's cassette tape with this song on it and I sang my heart out to it... I don't believe I made it past the Chorus before my father turned it off and told me to stop.

I still listen to this song from time to time because it helped me as a child come to terms that I was different and it's ok to be different. Don't be afraid to be your true self and to love yourself for who you are even if the world around you expects you to be something else.
