After making a lot of videos glorifying the camera helping to price rise and AFTER selling it, guy makes a video destroying it 😂.

3:44 - if you're working with a client that is going to doubt what you're doing and micro-managing your work to the point they give you shit over what they see on the monitor and not taking your word for it...stop working with that client.

It’t unfortunate you leave SIGMA fp. You have given alot of fp related content, which are super informative and one of reasons I bought the camera as a start up cinema entusiast. I won’t be selling mine as its use is cinema and photography is secondary. There are not many who are in the realm of Sigma fp, but I want to thank you for a rich insight of this beast of a niché camera! And you have a valid reasons to leave the camera. I hope Sigma listens to the issues the camera has. Especially higher resolution isn’t the answer for camera found its best usability, it’s the basics should be in order, before it found its best perfomance. But they did pave the way what a cinema camera can do!

Been using the Sigma FP for a couple of years now. it's a fantastic little camera that punches way above it's weight. I just use a good variable ND to expose correctly. It does everything I expect a good cinema camera to do, I've even matched it perfectly with Arri Alexa footage. In my opinion the footage from the FP looks way better than any Sony Camera.

Meh, to each their own. It was nice to have you in the FP fam for a short period of time. It is an extremely niche camera. It ain’t for everyone. ✌🏻

Now you know you couldn’t post this and not get friendly heat from me. I will say if photography is your jam for this camera, you chose an a7siii as you street photo camera? Prints on that should be fun. I know you have something else cooking, but you know I had to give you shit. ❤

I do think the banding is crazy at time, I always adjust the shutter to compensate. On top of that the AF is just terrible, there is no solution😂 the FP L is slightly better but still bad.

I will absolutely disagree with the “no soul” comment. I think these cameras have to most soul in the hands of someone that is willing to work around the quirks.

Still love you my dude, but I had to chime in since this is my baby 😂 it’s like defending a child

I still love the images from it. Not yet seen the banding. But for the image quality, size, price ratio it’s unbeatable. I don’t use the evf but do have the dark power swivel screen. All the exposure and focus tools are fantastic and really easy to use. Ticks all the boxes for me. Really appreciate all the effort you’ve put into the fp videos. Been very informative. Thank you.

I’m an owner of Sigma cameras that go back to the DP1 as well as the FP and I’m also a film photographer. I love these cameras. What sigma doesn’t share with it’s customers is that their cameras are not point and shoot cameras, they must be treated like a film camera in the hands of a Cartier-Bresson type (Leica M6) photographer to get great images. Set the camera at 100 iso, set lens to f8, distance at 2 meters, hunt for good light and composition, adjust shutter speed for the desired exposure and snap, all preset. Memorize hyperfocal tables. Shutter speed gets too low, brace yourself against a wall or bring out a tripod. That’s what all the famous street photographers do. Justin, you are absolutely right about the tool has to fit your needs and this camera is not for you. Sigma is pretty arrogant about the critics. Read the reviews on the Sigma DP1 from 2008. They never listened and stubbornly continued to produce basically the same camera to this day as a new model. All that criticism and still the 2008 DP1 is my main go to camera for street photography today because it fits my style. You’re vids are great!

I like the tone and pace of this Justin. Doesn't feel condescending and easily palatable as a student. Nice job!!

S'ok Justin' You gave it alot* Having fun w/ my as intended entry level fp cinema camera that captures some silly cool stills too. $250 Dark Power tilt screen did it for me. Note; fp version 5.0 (Feb8) to include 'Ed Lachman' zone system exposure mode ~

I actually got a very good deal on my Sigma fp. I even bought it cheaper here than what it was selling on B&H back in the day even with the price drop. I'm one of maybe two in my country who bought the camera, and my photography and filmography friends still think I'm crazy for buying it. I actually enjoy the pictures I take with it. They have a different feel to them, if that makes sense. I want to treat the pictures I take with it like film, meaning, I don't want to edit. I shoot film as well, and both serve as cameras for occasions and nostalgic purpose. I know this is a weird approach, but it works for me, and I don't see myself selling my Sigma fp (not to mention nobody would buy it off of me even if I wanted).
ALSO, I can shoot great quality raw video in places I would be told off if using a BMPCC 6K for example.

He earned a lot making video on fp and after making every possible content on fp. He sold it and still got decent amount back so win win situation.

The lack of a mechanical shutter should have told you this camera was never intended for stills.

all very reasonable reasons. Just want to say though- even though the camera lacks a lot of features people want, when it comes to image and video quality, I haven't found any camera even remotely in this price range that can make cinematic footage quite like this little beast. I don't understand how such a small, cheap camera can produce high-end footage like it does.

I just bump up the exposure on the client monitor and they haven't caught on yet. ;) I haven't used it for photography and probably won't. It is a straight up film (B) camera for me. It pairs nicely with my BMPCC 4K when I need a smaller rig. I'll probably hold on to it at least until BlackMagic releases a box camera or there is a new FP. I'm just not a fan of Sony cameras, even though my daily point and shoot is the ZV-1.

I love Sigma fp. Whith each firware update it's gettig better and better. The only reason I switch to newer camera is if Sigma releases Sigma fp mark 2, or...mybe...if it comes out any time soon Lumix S1H II.

End your miseries and buy Leica q for your photo needs.
FP is amazing for low light tho, I am selling my s1r because Sigma destroys it when comparing noise same as FP destroys FPL in low light situations (stills+video).

I’ve been shooting the fp hard for a while now… just concluded a two week, 5 state, passion project and the banding/flickering is real, but I still love it. Shooting night city shots there is a flickering on certain types of lights but it is a still a gem.

I’ve sorta leaned into the defect, and most of my non photographer pals don’t even notice or when I point it out to them they think it’s just the nature of that light and don’t see it as a defect.

Excellent analysis. And you sure didn’t BASH the camera like some people are claiming here.

I bought the fp when it first came out, but it’s been sitting in the closet ever since, because other hobbies got in the way. And I’m lazy.

I bought it because I know NOTHING about cine, but wanted 12 CDNG to learn Resolve. So, at its price point, and what it’s capable of, it IS a fantastic entry level camera…capable of advanced stuff as well.

Visiting my old home town of NYC next month after two decades away, and I plan to put her through the paces using just a Helios 44-2, shooting 12 CDNG, and leaving all my other lenses at home.

I have a decent amount of good M42 glass, and I expect it will be a lot of fun shooting them on the fp.

I bought this camera knowing most of the drawbacks you mention✅ for £1350 in pristine condition. I intend to use it only as a travel companion for landscape using my L mount lenses as the SL2-S is too big to hump around Japan on trains etc. Waiting for the Laowa auto focus 10mm to hit the shops next week and then hopefully I fill the landscape gap left by my Q3 (which comes as well for street and EDC). The sigma will do focus bracketing and ISO6 ND shots so a nice small package for most landscape and architecture needs. Not getting the EVF it’s a waste of time going for the LCD viewer (collapsible) another space saver. I’m not sure how you ever thought this could be a street camera, electronic shutter just does not work for that genre regardless of any other issue. You are a great video guy. Congrats! Ken
