One of the greatest poems ever written; Invictus is a rallying cry for those fighting hard times.

After being diagnosed with tuberculosis, W. E. Henley wrote Invictus in hospital while undergoing treatment on his left leg, which was amputated from the knee down. He was still only a young man at that time and wrote the poem as a demonstration of his resilience in fighting the disease.

Invictus was said to have shed light into the darker corners of his life when all else failed.

Full Poem:

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. We never lose. We only win or we learn!!

I learned this poem in 7th grade and I'm 75 now. It's always been my compass in life. No one can live your life but you is what it taught me. Don't allow others to define your mission or behavior. It's the most powerful message I have ever heard. W.E Henley was a Genius,

This poem has been a great source of inspiration and strenght this last year.
It started when my wife of 15 years cheated on me, we were childhood sweethearts.
She then up and left me and our 3 kids all alone for 3 months. When she came back and wanted to se the kids they refused, so she said it was my fault and retaliated with accusing me of rape and violence.
Neither police nor social workers believed me. But they had nothing but her lies.
Today the kids still with me, refusing to see thier mom, and they are so much happier now than ever before.

Thanks man a lot for those poems! You even inspired me to write my own poem(below):
How can the man that never fell in the bottomless pit,
Taste the full flavours of climbing the highest peak?
Man is only content when his sacrifices are picked
A strong man is only strong when others are weak
How can victory have any taste when defeat was never served ?
Truth is only real because of the lies that men speak
Man's path to paradise is through hell-fire burned

Thanks for anyone who read it! It's not the most well written poem but it speaks for my soul! You guys go overcome your pains and discover bliss. Much love

This is my favorite poem. I've got it memorized, and often repeat it to myself when I'm struggling. I was watching some of your other videos and was delighted to see you had it up, you did a great job, love your videos.

Nelson Mandela used to read this poem while in jail. It kept him alive during those harsh times, inspiring him, keeping his faith unbreakable. Such a deep poem, filled with wisdom.
