- Manos Hatzidakis (1925 – 1994) was a Greek composer and theorist of music, born in Xanthi, Greece. As his music is globally recognized, he is considered as one of the greatest Greek composers. Within his career, he cooperated with many other famous musicians, writers and intellectuals, such as Nikos Gatsos, Giorgos Seferis, Odysseas Elytis, Aggelos Sikelianos and Mikis Theodorakis.
- In 1967 Manos collaborated with the American band “New York Rock & Roll Ensemble” and recorded an album called “Reflections”. The album contained a song with English lyrics called “Noble Dame” (= Gentle Woman / Η Ευγενική Κυρία) whose music had been written by Manos. Many years later, in 1983 Nikos Gatsos wrote the new Greek lyrics of the song “Noble Dame” and then the song went under the new name “Peribanou / Περιμπανού” so that the artist Dimitra Galani could sing it for an Album called “Ατέλειωτος Δρόμος / Ateleiotos Dromos (= Never Ending Road)”.
- We can assume that his work “Peribanou” comes from “Peri + Banou”. “Peri” in the Persian language means “fairy”, and “Banou” means “Miss, Princess, noblewoman”. It is said that the song maybe refers to fairy Peribanou from “Arabian Nights / One Thousand and One Nights”, presenting exotic beauty.
