It’s Transgender Awareness Week and we have a very special guest! The incredible illustrator and trans activist, Kat Blaque! There are still lots of people who aren’t very progressive when it comes to talking about trans people and trans issues. And with the holidays coming up, you could end up having some slightly uncomfortable conversations at the dinner table. But don’t worry! We’re here to help. Here are 8 comebacks for transphobic relatives over the holidays. Let us know what you think in the comments!

I'm a trans male and I'm so tired of people who knew me pre- transition saying "Oh, I knew you were a guy the whole time. They think they're validating my identity but it's quite presumptuous.

Really appreciate the inclusion of "they" There isn't enough nonbinary visibility in the trans movement. <3

There is NOTHING wrong with being transgender, agender, or genderfluid

Here's one for you trans folk free of charge (though it is VERY bitchy so its up to you if you wanna use it).

Divorced aunt: You know, it might just be a phase but getting your "bits" changed is a life long
Trans person: Yeah but your marriage wasn't.

I have a half-closeted mtf trans person very near and dear to me who is dealing with depression, and it's videos like this that make it just a little bit easier for them to feel loved and accepted. It makes me feel better too.

Awesome vid, keep up the great work guys!

Re: #1, even sex isn't necessarily binary. Intersex people are a thing that exists.

'they' in the dictionary means 'multiple people or a person with unspecified gender'. So if anyone is using the grammar card, then they haven't used an up-to-date dictionary in many years.

My friend is very Christian and her mom was shit talking Caitlyn Jenner. I was scared of what she was going to say, since I myself am trans, but she stood the fuck up for her. She got hella pissed when her mom said rude things about Caitlyn. I was so happy at that moment I was in tears.

I'm not even a little ashamed to admit that having two of my favorite ladies in the universe in the same place made me tear up a little bit <3

I’m cis but I love this as I hear these rude remarks from family (about others) so now I can use these in those moments! Thanks!

IT'S SO AMAZING TO BE ABLE TO SEE TWO OF MY FAVORITE BLACK FEMALE YOUTUBERS COLLAB TOGETHER!!! #BlackGirlsRock So jealous that Chesca got to meet Kat and Kat got to meet Chesca! I'm not gonna have enough tears to listen to Adele's new album. Thanks for being such great role models and keep up the great work~

I get asked by cis folks all the time if I'm getting a sex change operation? Like it's the end and be all of trans.

I try not to be rude and roll my eyes at them but it's so hard to be patient with invasive questions

I'm a transwoman, and while I think there are some good points being made here, I don't think it's fair to condemn someone as "transphobic" for being curious.

Kathryn Wilkins calling her "Kat Blaque" is cultural appropriation towards french culture and the french language.

Love the video! Btw my personal favorite comeback to my extended family about the name changes of transfolks is asking them in the past 25 years, how many times they have referred to/called my mom by her maiden name? (my parents have been married 25 years and my mom took my dad's last name). Why do you accept cousin James going by Jimmy? That's not his name on his birth certificate, but its on his Christmas stocking. How about Elizabeth going by Liz for the last 60+ years? Or Carol Ann going by her first and middle name at the same time?
