Austin Butler's Voice Coach Says 'Elvis' Permanently Changed His Voice

According to Austin Butler's voice coach, his continued Elvis impression is not an act. Irene Bartlett, the 31-year-old actor's voice coach, chatted with ABC Australia's Gold Coast on Monday, and she addressed how his voice permanently changed since playing such an iconic role in Baz Luhrmann's biopic. "What you saw in that [2023] Golden Globes speech, that's him. It's genuine, it's not put on...I don't know how long that will last, or if it's going to be there forever," she said, defending Austin.

I wonder how many people don’t even realize their voice and speech change when they’re with family vs friends vs coworkers vs strangers. Everyone has the ability to change their speech patterns and voice unconsciously depending on the situation/people. I typically have a neutral regionally unidentifiable American accent, but I sound more southern around my Arkansas friends and more mid-western around Ohio friends and fam. Even if he is still putting on the Elvis voice for show, who cares? Just shows how committed he is to his craft and truly immersing himself in a role, which is obviously paying off.
