Phenomenal video.

As a power lifter for many years, I loved the training, but lacked in functional strength described in this video.
Body weight, kettlebells, and odd lifts are a must for superior strength, functionality, and conditioning. It’s not enough to move in one plane: it’s 360 !

Keep up the phenomenal work of being a transformational coach.

I’m gonna implement these training tips. There’s a hill by my house, so I’m gonna start doing sprints. I have a mat in my garage, gonna drill basic shots and sprawls. I’ve been making excuses coach but you’ve opened my mind to a new way of training 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I don’t really focus on conditioning a lot, I focus on my skills and techniques when I wrestle

What you said at 7:30 really stuck with me.

As a powerlifter with no real wrestling ability, I can say for certain that if wrestlers focused more on strength in the deadlift, box squat, and bench press, they'd drastically improve performance. I wrestled a college wrestler on a bet. He outmatched me obviously but he was very week. When I grabbed him with my hands he was not able to break my hold. I actually bruised his wrists and his biceps just from gripping him. This kid should have destroyed me but he really didnt. Although he was more conditioned, it took me much less effort. When we locked up his technique didnt help much, and when he tried to trip me he just didnt have any strength behind it. We were roughly same weight, difference was he said he could not bench anywhere near 300 lbs. I benched over 400. He could do situps for mi utes straight he said, but he could not do a single rep with a 45 lb plate behind his head. He could also do pullups, but he could not dumbell row 120 lbs for a really good rep. This kid was a state level wrestler, if I had even a years training I think I could have taken him. Most of the time hed move fast trying to break my hands from his wrists but he couldnt . did beat me though in the end lmao

I have the Jon Trenge "Veritas" and the snippets of lifting I saw him doing were legit. Good form on bench and power cleans to front squat. He was arguably the best 197 to never win NCAA's. Did you see him at Lehigh while you were there?

Great words of wisdom, awesome gym, and thank you for all your vids. I consider you, Smitty, Joe D, Ross E. the most badass trainers there is. God bless!!!

There's only one type of strength: the ability to generate force against an external resistance. "Conditioning is your best hold" according to Karl Gotch, and that seems to be what the video is about, aerobic energy mechanisms. Anaerobic and aerobic are both useful in any sport, burst like weightlifting or sustained like distance running.

I know your really talking about college level or obviously very high level wrestling. But I am in high school, right now I'm in early off-season and was wondering... should I go for strength training in the gym? Or power training? Of course I'm also doing tons of cardio and getting mat time, I don't see many wrestlers lifting though. Also idk if it's relevant but I'm in the 220 weight class

Well, with the mental aspect of training how can you get a savage mind set other than just conditioning the body? I mean how do you get that rough attitude especially if you’re a nice guy or a Sportsman?

Extreme wrestling rounds … go all out … beyond exhaustion, extreme effort

Of course in a match you might have to pace yourself, that is different but for overall strength … u need that all out max effort for as long as possible and beyond

Ancient exercises and calisthenics from any culture is just not enough anymore...even with genius talent. You need scientific strength training, nutrition and therapies.

We don’t even lift that often probably one time per week but it’s mostly Some running and pure training we got destroyed last week by ripped wrestlers and our school used to be the best high school wrestling team of all

I think it depends of the category, the way that you train
