Climate-Forced Migration in Alaska: Permanent Peoples' Tribunal
Показать описание
Climate change, induced by fracking and the fossil fuel industry, will cause arctic ice to melt, sea levels to rise, and many communities around the world to relocate.
Presenting from Geneva where she has recently participated in the UNFCCC COP 24, Robin Bronen delivers a report on the pressing reality of climate change on the coast of Alaska. Because of polar amplification, the ice on the coast of Alaska is melting rapidly, leaving native coastal communities without their native environments. These communities need a framework for planned relocation that protects both their individual and collective rights. With out these protections, Bronen says, native coastal communities face further potential devastation.
This recording is part of the official proceedings of the Permanent Peoples' Tribunal Session on Human Rights, Fracking and Climate Change, taking place May 14 to 18, 2018.
