i think your definition for cold start is a bit flawed. when a lambda is invoked, aws service finds a *machine* (not necessarily an entire computer), installs node or anyother runtime, install packages. the time that takes to install all these are significant compared to executing js. node or bun or most js runtimes use v8 or webkit as their js engine which are like 26/28 megabytes in size, but quickjs is significantly smaller in size, so the cold start is very fast. but quickjs has trade offs too, like in long execution its very slower than traditional engines. i believe the size of quickjs played the vital role in shrinking down the overall cold start.

I completely agree than something like bun deploy will be launched if you run bun deploy in terminal it will say, it is a sub command reserved for future use by bun so it is possible we get something like bun deploy.

Did you miss the main part of cost efficency? This runtime if it's on lambda would then be pay as much as it computes. As against node running on say an ec2 instance.

Good video. Regarding your thesis that bun will reach full node compatibility while also making it so that the LLRT cold and warm start tables “become a joke”… I’m extremely sceptical.

Quickjs has a lot of issues in terms of security. V8 is battle tested. Unless you sort out security threats of quickjs, aws infra will be more prone to security.
With most people going to cloudflare or fly or vercel, this is their response for edge functions.
