I found myself getting very frustrated by halfway through the video. You showed you had Lighroom on the iPhone. I think you know that this can be used as an alternative camera app instead of the Apple camera app?? When you were expressing some of your frustrations, especially with long exposure, I was wondering why you didn't switch to Lightroom to take the photo. This is more of a "pro" camera app with the controls you would expect. In fact it has a basic mode and a pro mode. Here you can adjust the shutter speed like on a normal camera (I'm on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and it should be even better on the 15). So go for half a second, adjusting ISO as needed, and go for it. It's the computational photography of the Apple app that was frustrating you and getting in the way. But of course, for a handheld night mode shot, even with stabilisation the sometimes 2 or 3 second exposures are treated computationally to minimize movement blur. This computational 'help' doesn't exist in the Lightroom camera app and it is much more like using a normal camera, albeit on a phone. What's more, the resulting files are native Adobe RAW files that slot straight into Photoshop or Lightroom on your laptop or desktop after airdropping them from your phone.

Love this video 🤩 not sure if anyone has commented with this detail but the reason you’re able to do handheld long exposures on iPhone is due to the way it takes them. It takes a series of photos one after another like a video and then stitches them together. The iPhone then keeps the consistent parts from each photo (buildings, roads etc) and then duplicates the bits that change (light trails, flowing water etc). This is why you don’t get as smooth lines with lights or water as you would with a mirrorless or DSLR camera which opens the shutter for the full exposure. It’s a very clever way of doing long exposure without needing a tripod or steady hands!

Though I really love your travel videos, there's something comforting about a good old-fashioned London POV video, I find, so I was happy to see another one! The phone images are definitely impressive and I really liked that tip/experimentation with the prism! I don't think I ever would have thought of that. Anymore such fun tricks planned? 👀 (And that other Jimmy's art tho, wow!!)

Interesting content, thank you. Consider using a phone case that allows you to add variable ND and POL filters for more satisfying results.
