It's Prom season, but Veronica doesn't have a date yet. She's been waiting for this particular boy in her calculus class to ask her. Finally, Kevin pops the big question and she happily accepts. The one obstacle in their way is her parents, as they must approve of her date. When Kevin shows up at their house, he receives mixed messages from Veronica's parents and is treated rather disrespectfully by the mother who has reservations about the interracial relationship and Kevin being Black.

It was refreshing to see a young black man depicted as intelligent, respectful, considerate and goal oriented. There are many like him, but they're not talked about in the mainstream media. There are races who have never socialized with each other. Assumptions have overridden accuracy. A person's character shows through quicker than their skin color, once they open their mouth.
