The treatment used was 2 rounds of 2 grams OAV a few days apart. When you are making a split like I did with mostly capped brood you get a nearly complete period where there is no capped brood. The new queen will be laying but it takes 9 days for her brood to be in the capped stage. When you factor in the period she is in the cage or out of it and not laying yet, your capped brood frames will have their brood emerged and all the mites exposed unless there was some younger brood introduced as well. We feel it is worth it to do 2 treatments to pummel the mites completely allowing our bees to thrive.

Kamon, I saw your Vermont Queen, she was headed down to the creek with about a dozen drones to go swimming and cool off. lol If you’re like me sometimes I can’t see that one tree because I focus on the Forest too much. Sometimes I don’t understand Mother Nature, my hives at home are packing in the nectar and my hives that’s 7 miles away I’ve been feeding for 3 weeks. I have not found and golden Rod blooming yet, that normally starts more towards the end of September around here. Hopefully we will have a record setting fall flow. I would love to harvest just a couple of gallons of fall honey. Looking forward to the Hive Life in January.

Looking good! I have a bunch of shy queens also. You look at the side of the frame they’re on just to get a glimpse of her running to the other side. Flip the frame over and get a glimpse of her running to the first side. 😂 Oh well. They’re plugging every available cell with eggs, so they can run all they want.

Hi Kamon love the MP queens. I usually put them in a dbl nuc, overwinter then give them hives.

NE Ohio they say double deeps also, that's what I do. I have the same days when the Queen is super shy. Nice inspection, thanks for sharing.

I’m in Northern California and 8 out of 11 of my hives are doing just the opposite. There storing food source. I’ve been feeding syrup and protein patty all year because it’s been so dry but have five crape myrtle trees that bloom all summer. I’ve got one queenless hive that I think I’ll break down and spread the resources and bees to a couple of the weaker hives and see how it goes.

Happy for you that the split has gone well. How much longer will you feed the hive? About how many months in the year do you have to have supplemental feeding for your bees?

Hey Kamon. I was going through my hives last week, and one of them had the deep super above the brood chamber slap full of bee bread. Is that good, bad, or what?
