Starbase, the largest rocket production and launch facility under the direct management of SpaceX, is currently undergoing its most significant period of development, much like the company's ambitious Starship program.
Recently, SpaceX unveiled a major change to several key rocket production structures.
Besides, the company has also made some unexpected decisions regarding expanding the Starbase facility. However, it doesn't seem optimistic.
These moves raise questions about whether U.S. government launch regulations are hindering the growth of aerospace companies.

SpaceX‘s presence down in Starbase has continued to grow over the years as the company ramps up Starship development and flights. However, there has been a slight change in what could have been a massive expansion of SpaceX land, as the company has pulled out of a land-swap deal with the state.
Earlier this year, it was reported that SpaceX was hoping to obtain 43 acres of Boca Chica State Park in exchange for 477 acres of land further north by the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. This deal swap would have given the state a large area in a relatively quiet, tourism-focused part of the region for camping and other recreational activities. Meanwhile, SpaceX would have gained extra space around its Starbase facility for more launch operations.

According to a new report, as of late September, SpaceX is no longer interested in that deal. The deal faced regional pushback from environmentalists and members of the Carrizo/Comecrudo tribe who claim the land is sacred.
SpaceX has been pushing for the land swap since 2019 when large-scale operations began in the Boca Chica Beach area. Back then, it was widely believed that SpaceX’s Starbase facility would need very large amounts of land to get anywhere close to launching Starship operationally. While the company has acquired a good chunk of the land along State Highway 4, it has done a lot with what it has, so maybe the land is no longer needed.
SpaceX has replaced the large temporary tents with a permanent factory known as Starfactory. Early Block 2 Starship sections have already been rolling out of the facility and into high bays for stacking. SpaceX employees have also begun moving into a newly built office building and using a parking structure nearby instead of parking on the side of the road or in large dirt lots.

My only issue with gigabay is the visual appeal of it on the site. It look out of place. I like to see starbase look nice not just good at building rockets

I have learned one thing as a Sailor:
30 miles off shore, and seeing anything human gets rare.

Its rather pleasant, and led me to many day dreams of off shore floating habitats, And even off shore cultures.

And one of the things I thought of was a Sea Going Dry Dock that was like its own port facilities, and you anchored it over a sea mount or other under water hump, and set up business building more Sea culture Artifacts.
Some such idea might be extrapolated into a construction and launch system.
Say using ferrocement over steel for producing the floaty parts, so corrosion was negligent. And a repetitive pattern so you could cover area.

A nice spot would be inside the barrier islands. Say a ways farther from Brownsville and its Eco Extortionistic Yammer Heads, and their Tribal Cohorts, ready to say swamp land is sacred...(Indigenous Grifters....)

At least if it was floating, their claim of sacred bay bottom would sound more absurd than Sacred Sand Spits...

And the US Military has done offshore bases before... And they need a Military Launch facility too... maybe it could be Joint base Space Force and SpaceX?

Have a couple three areas, Military, building and refurbishment, launching, Passengers and cargo handling.
And off shore to keep tourists at a safe watching distance...

I would suggest Hex shaped sections.

With bumpers, lines, bollards, and toggle weights to keep them bunched pretty good and then bridge sections across the spacing gaps, like a roller ended gangway that I once fabricated for a floating dock system as a Park Ranger... I could imagine up a nice little floating village with business concessions, tourism, Helo decks, etc.
Something all Navy Like, that they maintained for Space Force and SpaceX...
Nice spot if they ever get sea planes again like they should...

That would be like killing two Sea Gulls with one beer bottle... 🤣

Get away from the general public, build an upscale stylish community, not be limited by land area...
And could be built a section at a time, and create jobs all along the Gulf Coast building sections. And in the future sections could be barged to other places for off shore launch and landing facilities and the plan used all over the planet to create sub orbital transportation systems
For Military and Civilian use... i.e. a model project.... Just need the Politicians to Pork Barrel us up some Jobs money... In hopes they too could someday have point to point sky ports...

Might be nice, really nice...

What's the Point ? .... or Advantage of those High Bays and Mega Bays and Giga Bays, all being individual buildings ? ... Why don't they just Join them all together ... as One gigantic BF Bay ! ... They are already lined up perfectly ... That will cut down on the Wind, Dust and Weather, and keep the Rockets cleaner .... KISS
