Lal's work on the Mahabharata and other archaeological sites in India helped to broaden our understanding of the country's ancient history and culture. it cemented the fact that tales and folklore are not just stories but history. It is upon the government to enforce and strengthen ASI to bring back the glory of these places and rename those places to their original names.

There are quite a lot of errors and issues with this approach. The guy who went in search of troy digged beyond it and distroyed a good chunk of archiological data and history with it. Working with preconsived notions is a harmful approch.

During excavations we found out proof of ancient civilizations. That doesn't mean that it's the city described in Mahabharata.
Why do we have such a fixation? The carbon dating proves it is 2000-1500 bc but we believe that Mahabharata happened during 8000-9000 BC. Even the dressing style was different during that era. We are imagining the characters of Mahabharata in a particular way( like TV serials, or the way Raja Ravi Varma had painted)
We must use our brain.
Then comes the type metals people in Mahabharata used. Iron was not found anywhere in these sites before 500BC. Even during the IVC time, bronze was in use. metal iron was discovered & used afterwards only. We must use our logical mind to correlate these issues and then & there we will find the discrepancies in connecting the life of Mahabharata characters and some random settlements of random people who are nothing to do with our mythological stories
Even Dwaraka underwear excavation misunderstood as Krishna's Kingdom but it's proven that it's a dockyard, where shops used to anchor

Draupadi was probably from Ahichhatra. Ahichhatra was capital of Panchal kingdom. So she was called Panchali also.

Though the british were good at archaeology, but biggest blunder they did was giving no regard to Indraprastha village archaeology while creating New Delhi on its land.
I believe even now it is worth to do at least a GPR survey over exposed land between old fort and Janpath
