PetSmart Turtle Unboxing: Western Painted Turtle

Meet Crimson Rubeus...I bought him from my local Petsmart. I couldn’t resist this beautiful turtle.

Yes !! I was searching were i can buy a painted turtle because i really want one and now i know were i can buy it!! And petsmart is really close to my house!!!

Question? Did you think your western painted turtle was a little bit skinny? Because I had just purchased the same species at monster pets in Philadelphia and he is a beautiful specimen! But on closer examination I found him quite not well fed! I mean even my baby red eared sliders were kinda chunky when I got them, but with my new buddy here, well he appears to need a few good meals if you know what I mean? I’m looking at his shoulders from his head to his arms and the skin is tight as a drum and recessed back, while around his legs on the inner most sides of his shell are the same deal ! I’ve seen other turtles where they have a little chub spilling out of that area, plus when I pick him up he feels rather light! I have read a few articles and books that say you’re turtle should be heavy, like dense and not like a piece of wood! Now he doesn’t appear sick in any way but this way, so im attributing it due to a lack of proper nutrition, because of ignorant kids who don’t give two shits about the animals their supposed to be caring for! So what we’re your observations about your new turtle?
