Gilla: Bend Me, Shape Me [Full Album + Bonus] (1978)

After Gilla's Tu es! became a Top 10-hit in Germany and the English version a Top 20-hit in Holland, her second album Zieh mich aus did not land any hits for her. However, her single Help! Help! (which had originally been released in August '76) suddenly started charting in Holland where it reached #19 in March '77, and Farian and Hansa decided Gilla should release an English-language album. Having already recorded Tu es as Why Don't You Do It, A Baby Of Love, and First Love (B-side of Help! Help!) a further 5 cuts were selected from her two German albums to be re-recorded in English. The LP Help! Help! was released in July 1977 and saw Gilla promoting the single Gentlemen Callers Not Allowed together with Boney M.'s Bobby Farrell. She landed another Top 20-hit in Holland, but found no success in Germany with it. The LP did not sell well, so Farian decided to pull out all the stops with a disco-rock-cover version of the American Breed's 1968 hit, Bend Me, Shape Me. The single was released early 1978, and Hansa Benelux decided to re-release the album, adding the single. After Gilla appeared in a TV-special together with Boney M., the single hit #12 in the Dutch charts, and while it still was no hit in Germany, Hansa also re-released the album there, including the single's B-side The River Sings (which was not on the Dutch LP). With Boney M.'s Rasputin being released September 1978, Farian recorded a German version with Gilla, but it failed to become a hit for her. Gilla would record a second album in English, I Like Some Cool Rock'n Roll, which was released early 1980, but she would soon after withdraw from the music business to raise her and Helmut Rulofs' daughter, Nadine.

The number 1 Gilla's hit in USSR was in those years and still is now - 'Johnny', english version. Number 2 - "Tom cat". She is still performing only these two songs in Moscow, from time to time.

The album version I get it was released without Bend Me Shape Me - which I got later on, on a 45 record - and it opened with Say Yes. I hadn’t listened for years … excellent quality … I’ve never seen the videos before … loved the instrumentals, thank you
