Now imagine in an alternate universe where this was the actual version released and someone on YouTube comes out with "levitating by dua lipa but the vocals are 9 seconds early" and everyone in the comments is talking about how much better it is than the original.

at first i thought this is gonna be an intentional desynced meme edit, but holy shit this gave the song a different energy! nice!

It both simultaneously makes her vocals stand out more AND makes the instrumental more noticable!

The bass lick at 2:42 sounds so fricking amazing so clear!

I honestly clicked this expecting a disaster but came out discovering a masterpiece. I wonder what other songs are a few seconds away from legendary.

I like how this makes the instrumental feel more incorporated

I love how this gives her vocals more of a chance to shine. Rather than drowning in the track the whole time.

This feels like a live version with extended intro

This song was definitely ahead of its time.

for anyone wondering why it works so well, the vocals are moved 4 bars and the song runs a 4 bar chord loop 👍

so basically this made it so that every repeat of a vocal melody is accompanied by a change in the instrumentals, making it feel less like a repeat and more like a recontextualization. Genuinely educational for me as a hobby songwriter and producer

This version doesn’t over power her voice at all and I’m all for it! I didn’t think the original version did at all but after listening to this version… it kinda does.

Why does this actually sound good?

The chorus sounds great with a 9 second delay

Letting the instrumental run for a bit before the vocals kick in is something I unironically love in songs and I wish it were done more often

ik the ppl who originally mixed this song are screaming crying throwing up knowing their song was 9 seconds away from this absolute trancendence

This just makes the song feel less poppy in a way. Like it's less predictable, less about the patterns lol. Either way, the song's amazing.

As someone who’s never heard the original, this totally sounds like an official version of a song.

What’s so cool about this for me and what adds so much texture to this version, is that the instrumental introducing musical ideas before the vocals creates a certain setup/payoff structure, kind of like jazz where the band members are responding to each other musically.

I often find pop to be a little too structured and packaged feeling. Everything is boxed into its section of the song if that makes sense. This fixes that for me.

Letting the beat and instruments simmer in for a full measure really makes the audience appreciate it better and elevates the song a lot
