When your peach tree puts on its beautiful array of blossoms in the spring and then the cute, little baby peaches start to form, no one except an evil, murderous mad-man would end the life of those perfect little peaches-in-the-making....right? In the first of a three part series, Dirt Farmer Jay shows you how, why and how much to thin your peach tree to keep it healthy, promote high productivity and harvest delicious, quality fruit.

Lol wow thanks for the video. No wonder my peach tree has a bunch of tiny peaches that never get big. Didn't know that it can't handle all of the fruit

Hey DFJ, I don’t see a follow up video about the results of your pruning! I’m sure it worked though. Thanks for the 6”, leafy, and direction tips for plucking off the less desirable fruits. I’ll be putting all this to good use next Spring. I have two questions. My biggest problem for all my fruit trees is ants...I’ll get rid of them at the base, but they’ll be back in the tree a day later seeming to drop in from the sky. Any suggestions on what I can do early in the season to prevent their spring attack that turns into a war by summer?
#2: This last spring, the bees only worked on pollinating most of one side of my nectarine tree (the side that gets the most sun), and scarcely the other side. I noticed your peach had no branches crisscrossing through the center. Do you think that by allowing more airflow through the center of the tree it will encourage the bees to buzz over to the shadier half and get the job done while the sun shines? The tree is planted on a north-east corner of our house and by 3pm is in the shade.
