The Saiyans Were Evil!

The Saiyans stand as some of the most popular species in anime history and certainly the Dragon Ball Universe as well. Many of its representatives are among the most popular characters of the franchise and they've earned the love of many fans.

But is this love justified and with the right reasons in mind? Let's find out.

Saiyans (サイヤ人, Saiya-jin) are a naturally aggressive warrior race who were nearly all obliterated by Frieza in the seventh universe before the start of the Dragon Ball series. They play a central role in Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super, once it is revealed that the protagonist Goku is actually a Saiyan who was sent to destroy Earth. In Dragon Ball Super, Champa reveals that there are Saiyans in-universe six as well.

In the Japanese version on the first Broly movie, one of the slaves from planet shamo says "the Saiyans are the devils of the universe".

I'm surprised someone actually thought that. Goku wasn't good when he first arrived on Earth. Same for Vegeta.

The Saiyans were bastard, the tragedy of their story was that they were wiped out by a tyrant while they were loyal to him because said tyrant was afraid they might become powerful enough to overthrow him. But yeah, they were really, really, really bad people.

Exactly! People need to stop trying to go along with this notion that the Saiyans were a race of poor species. Not to mention, how these people use these dub lines as  "reasons" for Vegeta "deserving" to kill Freeza.

Pure Non-Manipulated Sayains are evil. All sayains' names are based off of vegetables like Kakarot for Carrot and Vegeta for Vegetables and Broly for Broccoli. This literally translates into toriyama saying the vegetarians and vegans are evil 😂😂.

I am thankful that the original BoG script never happened. Where they wanted the GoD to be the reason why the Saiyans are evil through some infection. It would have been cringy.

I always hate debating people about this because of the way dbs shows the saiyans, they ignore the fact that almost all of the Saiyans were evil conquers more or less. Just because of the dub, characters like Gine and new Broly.

I argued with someone who thought that saiyans "weren't really bad people" because they were egotistical and that their way of being good or bad isn't the same as humans. Even though being egotistical only further proved how evil they were. And the fact that he said that because they are a different race means that they have different moralities which somehow make them "not really bad people" even though the namekians were a peaceful race and elder kaioshin, one of the people in charge of the universe even called them peaceful. So what the saiyans did were not evil to just humans, they were evil in general.

This is somehow outdated or was retconed by Toriyama in Super. In Super not only there were "good Saiyans who created the ritual of Super Saiyan God", but also Vegeta mentioned talking with Caba that "they don't steal planets anymore" (of course he meant himself, Goku and others) by which he might suggest that the Saiyans of the 7th universe weren't such evil as you say. Another thing connected to that is the direction of Saiyans from the 6th universe which were supposed to be almost the same except that they kept their original planet Salad and they have never met Frieza. At least those are my insights.

Saiyanjins got stronger everytime they fought. Eventually a SSJ would have emerged from the warrior class of Saiyanjin. The Legendary SSJ Broly was enough to bring Goku & Vegeta to their knees. Imagine a whole planet of evil SSJs being sent to genocide races of other planets. It would have been as bad as Majin Buu. In a twisted way, Freiza saved Universe 6 by wiping them out.
