I hope this doesn't come across badly, but to avoid confusing beginning painters, this is more a value study than color theory but i know what you meant. There is a saying in painting - values do the work, but colors get the credit. Your choice of colors based on their light and dark values is why it works so well. I love the colors you chose - very ethereal!

This is the way the warm colors of the face change under cool lighting, like under a magenta or purple neon sign maybe? This shows that colors are relative. Even the cool, semi-dark shades of maroon brown seem warm and bright when they are surrounded by cooler, darker colors. Color and light theory really is an amazing subject when you get into it.
