Accountability is an important issue when buses are used for transport purposes. The principally aimed of this research is based on the design and implementation of a simple and effective digital bus passenger counter. The task is mainly constructing an electronics counter system, which counts the number of passengers entering or out of a bus. The methods and principles used in achieving the circuit are called the top-down methodology. The actual entrance state, which coincides with the exit, was noted. Thus, counting is done in two directions. The system is connected; such motion is sent only when triggered in two directions. Whether the passenger is going in or out of a bus through the bus entrance, IR sensors are introduced for their detecting ability. The output of the IR sensors is connected to the Arduino UNO, and the counting result will display on the display driver, which is connected to the LCD. The circuit counts a maximum of 40, after which the buzzer will sound, which means the circumstances are maximum or total. The actual implementation of the device is done in this work.

The authors would like to thank Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka for providing a conducive research environment for the academician, the student, and financial support. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Kolej Komuniti Segamat 2, for their research collaboration.
