This is beginning to chap my hide. We are fortunate enough to live in a nation governed by three branches: Executive, Judicial, and Legislative. These branches of government are co-equal, meaning that no one branch has more sway or greater authority than the other two. There are certain laws in place, for which our founding fathers wisely saw the need, that serve as checks and balances to prevent the undue usurpation of power from the other branches. Remember the historical context: chafing under colonial rule, these guys founded a new nation — a new country on the global map, which became the leader of the free world in record time. I believe our freedom is worth fighting for, which is one reason I served, and I believe this “administration” to be an obscene pantomime of a “presidency.” (The quotation marks are for effect; I use air quotes with Trump to emphasize his inadequacy on all levels.) The Articles of Impeachment are there, in our Constitution, to do enable us, the citizenry, to remove any president that doesn’t follow the law, and there are very specific examples in there, including bribery and seeking or accepting help from a foreign government for any reason. The Constitution specifically prohibits behaviors to which Donald Trump has openly admitted, as well as demonstrated on live television. We have many credible witnesses ready to testify to these truths. It’s very sad, but it’s absolutely necessary for the security of this nation that he be removed from office. It’s vital to the preservation of our constitutional democracy. And remember, the whole world is watching: we’ve spent the last three years alienating allies, ruling by capricious and wholly uninformed decree, and making a mess of everything, because it’s always got to be about this carney barker, this snake oil salesman, this lying, cheating grifter, “The Donald.” History will be cruel to him, and rightly so. And we are in that history, as citizens with rights, right this very second, so get busy, you guys: talk to people. Organize. Register. And please vote. Our nation depends on your participation.
