In the music video, danielle is not only portraying an idol. you can see her laughing at a tv that's showing nothing. so if you put a mental hospital as a background, danielle has pressure to laugh always 24/7 in front of fans, Haerin, which has the nickname "human cat" so she's thinking she's a cat, Minji, she's been told she's the oldest, mature, and the mental leader. so even if she's the same patient, she thinks she's a doctor that has to save, take care of the members. Hanni, she's representing idols who lost their real identity, value of existing. I think hyein has a similar story to Hanni. well that's how i think (sorry for the bad grammar!!!)

personally i think it’s about the relationship of a fan and idol, ditto is from a fans perspective (heesoo uses them as a coping mechanism from loneliness at school, and doesnt notice the person who cares about her irl, the boy bc shes too lost in the fantasy) and omg is from the idols perespective, an example is hanni thinks she’s an iphone (at someone, in this case the fans, command)

Despite the song being very cheerful, the story is actually sad and deep.

The 5 girls are in a mental hospital, which means they have a condition.

-Minji who is convinced she's not a patient but a doctor who helps are those people who always helps you when you're depressed and acts like they're fine when they are not.

-Haerin who acts like a cat and barely talks are those people who doesn't want to open up when they are depressed.

-Hyein has a condition that makes her think she's a princess which means she has no idea about what's happening. (She probably has schizophrenia.)

-Hanni is sad because her boyfriend broke up with her causing her to go crazy.

-Danielle who thinks they are always shooting MVs and that they are Idols, are those people who always dream and pretend to be something they aren't (e.g. being an Idol, Star etc.)

There's something in common among them right? Yes, they all have serious mental health. They have all gone crazy. This represents our generation today. We have all gotten depressed because of abuse, lack of social interaction, trauma and so many more. NEW JEANS are really a unique group. The creator of the story is literally a prodigy. We should praise them and NEW JEANS!

Each of their delusions represent what this new generations teens are facing. Hanni thinking she's an Iphone coz most of the things came to the kids awareness thru their phone (news, greetings, dating, etc) they're always on their phone, as if they can't live w/o it. Hyein's fairy tale delusions shows how they still fantasize romance as fairy tales. Haerin thinking she's a cat coz cat's world revolves in survival (in school, in life, with friends) and Minji - trying to help when she in fact needs help as well and she's not realizing that. <Forgot about Danielle's - forgive me>

I saw this in a music video. They said that it's a song about love and crushing because that's what's in right now, that's what people usually watch and listen to. Kinda fits the "showing the bad side of k-pop" concept they got, despite a upbeat love song seemingly not related to the message of the mv.
