Bilecik is one of the fastest growing cities thanks to its unique location in Marmara Region. It is also transition point where the landforms and climate change. The city, also formerly named as Agrilion and Belekoma, is also known as the passing place on hills (akra-ilion) in ancient times.

Bilecik, which has been home to great civilizations since ancient times, covers the Söğüt Region where the Ottoman Empire was established and Bozüyük district where İnönü Battles took place. These historical events happened in Bilecik made the city known as the cradle of the foundation and liberation.
