Great point. As always, there are conflicting information online about this and many issues, which leaves people confused. The fact is, every state, county and jurisdiction has different rules about starting and operating a business. It is best to check with your local authorities about the steps needed to start your business. My business is registered in MD. There is a section on the state’s official website dedicated to businesses. There, you can register your business and apply for a sales and used tax certificate. That certificate allows you to basically collect taxes on stuff that you sell on behalf of your state/county. Non of this stuff is complicated but will disrupt your way forward or your ability to scale, if you try to skip them. Your wholesale vendors, suppliers and even Amazon will at some point ask for these documents. If someone tells you that they are operating without these documents, that’s more than likely because they are operation from a state/county that doesn’t require one. The only other possibility is operating illegally-which has consequences you wouldn’t want for yourself. Ignorance of the law is not a valid defense, so do your due diligence

Please help. I register as individual seller on Amazon and now Amazon is asking me to register as a business. I sell a few item a month at the moment not even up to 10 items. They says my item I have listed is new so I have to register as business

To activate my account they want copy of any bills or business license of mine!!!
