How My Rabbit Became Free Roam

A detailed account of how Lennon became a free roam bunny. I understand not everyone is able to do this, but it is something I encourage and I also go over some other great alternatives if free-roaming is not an option for you. The most important thing to remember is bunnies *do not* belong in cages!

Much love,
Lorelei

The best thing about having free roamers is seeing them chilling somewhere unexpected or seeing two little ears popping up from behind something. Bunnies are the cutest! BTW, your makeup is gorgeous!

I just got a bunny and I'm sooo happy with him!! He's great and already littler box trained, he's a holland lop.

I love it when people allow their rabbits to free-roam and I'd love to do that when I live in my own place someday :).

Lennon is too cute to not free-roam.. it would break my heart to see all that cute caged up all the time.

My rabbit has been free roam in the house for 3 years! :) Free roaming is a very rewarding experience.

I had a couple bunnies when I was young. Great critters. Kept them in cages, but really wished I didn't (they had less than 4 square feet each); and I let them roam as much as I could, but never felt it was enough. Thought I knew a lot, but I've learned so much more since then. So, when I got my Cola Bunny back in February I was determined to do as right by her as I could. Got her a X-pen that gave her 16 square feet, let her out to explore a little a couple times a day. Circumstances came up that forced me to move, and after we finally got settled into the new place I was making her out of pen time longer and longer. Until finally I decided to see what would happen if I left her loose while I slept. No probs. And then while I was at work. Still no probs. So she's free roam almost all the time these days.

Also, I can totally back up Lennon's Mom's assertion that the little buggers are escape artists. While she talked about that I just sat here smiling, remembering my little friend Zack. He escaped so often it was frustrating. He loved being loose so much, and getting him back into his cage was such a royal pain in the butt that it made me hesitant to let him out at times. In retrospect, I didn't do nearly as right by him as I should have. In a way, the way I spoil Cola is like an apology to buns I had when I was young. Kind of a way to say that I'm sorry I didn't do better.

Anyway, yeah, a free roaming bunny can be great. My Cola is a pretty good-natured, friendly girl. Like any bunny, she has those very destructive digging and chewing instincts. And when she indulges them on things I don't want her to, I remind myself that she isn't malicious, she's just being a rabbit. Since I've gotten her I've lost a gaming mouse, a 50 foot network cable, 2 USB charging cables for my cell, and the power cord for my lava lamp. However, she doesn't really chew cords anymore. She's figured out that I don't want her doing it, and seems to respect that for... well, for whatever reasons make sense in her little bunny brain. Rabbits aren't stupid, but they are limited; and sometimes putting our human understanding of things aside and looking at things from their point of view is difficult (or even impossible).

Lol my bun has a 16 square ft pen for now. He bangs on the cage bars when the door is wide open.

It's kind of funny I didn't really make my bunny a free roam rabbit, he made himself a free roam rabbit. The only thing I did was give him a litterbox and put his food in the litter box so he litter trained easily. (He's only 11 weeks old.) and I still have his cage I just keep the thing open and I made him a ramp so he can move in and out of it as he pleases and he just sticks to my bedroom area normally. I just felt guilty putting him in there

You are so gorgeous! I was wondering what camera you use? I also love free roaming my bunnies, its' the best option when owning a rabbit in my opinion! 😄

I kept calling my rabbit Lenny for some reason after I adopted him, and so I named him it; now I know why! It's because I watch your videos so much!

Omg my rabbit Beckett became free range the same way as Lennon did 😂 We had him in an x pen and his litter box was in the corner of it and on the other side of the pen there was a chair since it was in my living room, so durning the day he would go in his litter box and hop over the pen onto the chair and when I came home he would just be chilling on the floor, so we just accepted the fact he was free range and took away the x pen 😂🐰

I totally had little faith in my bunny and thought he would destroy my apartment/ go to the bathroom where ever he wanted and I started watching your channel and boom he is free roam now. You’re 100% right, I needed to trust him and give him more credit than I was. It was the best choice ever, he’s such a happier bunny now and it makes it so worth it seeing his little personality shine. Thank you for your vids!

I couldn't get through this video without stopping to comment... THANK YOU!!! I see so many people on YouTube who have bunnies, and while they are taken care of, they are all in cages. I have two bunnies who are free range in my bedroom, er... sorry, they graciously allow me to live in THEIR bedroom. Mine are litter trained as well and both actually litter trained themselves. I loved hearing how you changed your life around for her! I have very little space in my bedroom and that's so ok with me because my peanut and nugget are happy and have a lot of room to run, bunny, hop and flop around. They are my world and it's so nice to see other free range bunny owners!

I got a rabbit about a year ago and I did keep her in a cage from the pet store at this time because I did do my research but not that much of it but I started to watch your channel like 1-2 months later and then I realized that that was not a good life for my rabbit so I changed it and now my rabbit lives in bedroom free roam and she is so spoiled! We have a pretty big bond but she just has never been ok with being picked up I have been trying to work with that with her because if I need to take her to the vet or something like that. I really love your channel thank you for doing this and saving rabbits life!!
