Major props to Dan for watching every single nominated film. I still haven’t even gotten through all the above-the-line nominees yet!

I started watching Dan for the industry breakdowns, but I’m starting to realize that he’s low key an incredible film critic.

I once shared a quote from my Oppenheimer review where I mentioned that I got bored and walked out. Someone commented to say "I disagree!" How?! Were they saying I didn't walk out?

Im not as ambitious as Dan and only watched the 10 best picture noms but American Fiction was a pleasant surprise for me as well. Loved it!

As for the Barbie of it all, while I definitely think no one should be criticized for not feeling the same about a movie as others, as Dan rightly points out, sometimes this is because a movie is categorically not made for you. And I think the flip side of that is, people need to stop calling movies 'trash' or 'not good' just because it doesn't speak to them personally. And I'm not saying this is a men vs women thing, but it would be silly not to acknowledge that for the better part of our history, male centric stories have been the dominant voice in entertainment. So when a movie comes along that speaks to women's stories, and there's a huge rush to tell us that it's a garbage movie and my personal favourite 'Ken was the only good part of it anyway', yeah, I can see why people get a little annoyed. The movie isn't for you, be like Dan, acknowledge that and move on. But don't discredit something just because it wasn't made to cater to your specific viewpoint.

Has anyone mentioned the Oscar themed background in dans office? Impressive and lots of time and effort I’m sure. Well done.

Society of the Snow and Nimona were a really lovely surprise for me and they've become some of my favorite films of all time. I must have seen each one around 20 times so far.
I wasn't expecting Nimona to get the nom, not because it's undeserving (If I'm objective, I'd put it third in this year's animated category) but because it's had such an underdog story and achieved a sort of cult popularity without most of the general public even being aware of its existence. The animation style was obviously influenced by the first Spiderverse film although it has its own artistic style, similar to Puss in Boots The Last Wish. I'm really enjoying this sort of renaissance of animation that came after Spiderverse although I'm sort of apprehensive about the big studios having their way with it and ruining it like they did with other styles. One correction is that it wasn't cancelled because of corporate mergers. Disney actually tried to get the creators to drop a lot of the gay stuff (I'm convinced that if they got their hands on it earlier they would have turned Goldenloin into a woman to make it a het relationship) but they were still unsatisfied and then they took the pandemic as an excuse to scrap the whole thing after it was 70% finished. The creators eventually managed to get it acquired by Netflix and Anapurna and were able to salvage it.
Society of the Snow should have been nominated in a dozen other categories, in my opinion. Most importantly cinematography, sound design, and score. The upsetting thing is that these categories were filled with undeserving films that got there solely on their filmmaker's prior popularity.

25:32 robot dreams is amazing. If it were me, I would give them the oscar because it was such a emotional movie. It's so good.

Dude this was amazing! Even as an Oscar fanatic, I don't get to watch EVERYTHING. So this was a perfect supplement. I hope you do this every year.

This year's Oscars would've been so interesting had Dune 2 come out in November as originally intended :)

I think Bradley’s nom should have gone to Zach Efron, so surprised Iron Claw was snubbed. I personally would love to see The Creator or Godzilla Minus One win the best visual effects Oscar.. I feel like Disney and Warner Bro could take a few lessons from those pictures n they totally deserve the dub

Amazing video! I was looking for someone reviewing all Oscar nominees so I'm very glad you made this. It would be even more interesting if you gave a star-rating to each film in my opinion. Hopefully next year :)

Thank you so much for this breakdown. I've kept up with the 10 movies nominated for Best Picture and the subsequent nominations those movies have, but the movies outside of those 10 I haven't been paying much attention to. I'm going to try and watch a couple before this Sunday

I’ve also watched every nominated film, so I’m really looking forward to this one.

Btw, my condolences for watching all those depressing documentaries.
