Maybe a little. But i can easily see the similarity being a coincidence. It's a kind of a natural place for a major-key melody to go, just like "My Sweet Lord" vs "He's So Fine" and all of that

these happens. artist heard the satriani song maybe somewhere in a bar, didnt pay attention to it. then three or more years pass, he may instinctively hums a melody after a first note and a good chord like it. the brain is underrated. and these happens.

Stuff like this happens all the time it’s more than likely a coincidence

The orginial melody is from Cat Stevens foreigners suite, around 16-17mins. A lot of songs after that sounded like that, together we are strong by Mireille Mathieu, when the rain begins to fall by Jackson, Britney Spears Hold it against me etc

When Joe sued, the case was dismissed because Joe actually called it off when they privately settled outside of court as Coldplay gave him a lot of hush money knowing full well they loved Joe’s melody and wanted to make their own song with it

Yes but honestly Coldplay gives a much deeper song to think about. The vibes are completely different.

To me, these similarities are no different then saying “the Simpsons did it.” There’s only a certain amount of riffs that work, so ofc at some point two people are going to write similar songs. Besides, these are two entirely different songs that provide entirely different experiences.

The instrumental in rock n’ me by Steve miller band released in 1976 I guess sounds a bit similar but viva la vida by Coldplay is such an amazing song and music from each decade is amazing!

Dude I just listened to If I could Fly a dozen minutes before stumbling upon this lol. Honestly I never quite got why people were comparing those two songs and claiming there was a case of plagiarism from one of them before, but now I do see the resemblance, especially in the singing of the Coldplay dude resembling the guitars notes and rhythm. Either way, I prefer If I could Fly.

I like coldplay but as a Satriani listener I just see viva la vida like a imitation of If i could fly. The satrianis song is beautiful.

Jarred, you have an ear for music, brother. Like damn. A great love for music that is light years ahead of mine.

Flashforward 5 years to the future when a great and universally loved banger comes out, the sample music used is a form of Egyptian Reggae mixed with African drums and flute music.
I could just see that coming.

Coldplay said they never heard this song and I believe that since his music is completely out of the realm of what they listen to or play.. I’ve listened to much more hard rock back in my younger days and I couldn’t name a satriani song and I never heard this song until the controversy

Old songs are just so calm and very good to listen to
New songs are like so aggressive the instruments are too loud but some are vibing
