I've seen these types of mini PCs all over Amazon recently (a lot of them were on sale for Prime Day), and I had my doubts since theyre pretty much all from no-name brands I've never heard of. Glad to see they hold up alright. Great video!

I run my entire network on a similar device from lenovo, and i mean everything, network share, backups, 12+ docker conatiners, media servers, automation, etc. I have mutiple drives attached by USB 3.0 (SSDs) and use the USB C port to attach a 2.5gigibit line. I use to be one of those dell r710 massive racks guys but man its really nice to have something be so tiny, not using much power and be just be so effecient. Proxmox and docker conatiners are your friends!

Enjoyed the video. Great job as always. Pulled the trigger on the Kamrui box you referenced. I've been looking for a project and this seems to be a good inexpensive place to start.

Great video, I am using Intel NUCs for my home lab since 10 years and I appreciate low noise and low power.

I've been running this sort of BOX as my VM hosts (x3)(Proxmox) for a few years now and they are great for the Homelab.
Really Quite as well as low power / Heat.
Im running the AMD Ryzen 7 4800 with 64GB ram in each host and have no issues at all.
The 1GB and 2.5GB combo is handy as well as the Extra SSD. Allows me to run Ceph.
I'm surprised it has taken this long for these to be flagged as a good home Lab System.

I wonder what the longevity of these units are. We've bought some low budget Beelink pcs for some very small clients that just need a probe (we are a MSP) that are essentially trash and are slow for what the specs say they are. The RMA process for Beelink has a lot be desired too. These ones maybe are better built. Thanks for the video Tom!

would be a great small firewall (pfsense, Sophos, Untangle) box or somethin of that nature

I've had the 5800U variant running Proxmox for a couple weeks now and so far so good. Only challenging issue is GPU passthrough for video encoding. All the options are in the BIOS but I still can't get /dev/dri/renderd128 to show up when IOMMU is enabled. Other PCI devices (Coral M.2 Accelerator) pass through just fine so I suspect a BIOS issue. I'll probably ask on their forums since they seem quite active

Also just for the curious, I have an opnsense VM for my router/firewall and it performs great. I get my full 1 Gig internet speeds in normal use. Haven't tried VPN etc but I think it'll handle it ok. Then I'm also running Homeassistant with Frigate for my 6 cameras hence the Coral board and it doesn't skip a beat although CPU usage is a little high right now since I can't get GPU passthrough working for hardware encoding/decoding

Thats pretty cool, i worked at my work with some 5950U amd thinkpad laptops, they are blazing fast only issue was battery life and it was heating like crazy.

Thing with this mini pc, it looks like they made a custom small mobo and 3D printed the case, that makes me worried of the consistency of the product. Though i support companies doing such thing and threating the giants.

Im still staying with my thinkcentres though

Just got mine today for 369€. Came with a AMD Ryzen 7 5700U and on very first impressions I'm extremely please. FWIW I've taken my Proxmox (OS) SSD out of my old tower server and popped it in, also put my 4TB NVMe (guests) drive from the server, so FYI 4TB's work fine. Bought it really off the basis of this review.

I purchased the Minisforum UM790 Pro. Wanted to do some light gaming. So far it seems pretty good.

Beelink has similar spec'd mini-PCs for similar prices, but the difference is they use brand name components inside.
