Yes Raynard . Like the first one and what the home maker did with the pipes; whereby he took what would be perceived as an ugly thing and unsightly that most would be hasty to rip out, and converted them into a beautiful design feature . As with the bricks .
Which is what it's about . Being able to "see" the beauty, behind the ugly, being about to see the heritage features and allowing them to shine, by either cleaning and restoring, or applying the high sheen black spray paint . And incorporating the furnishings touches beside it, so that it has become an area .
Or space of harmonic interest and blends in with the overall bigger picture .

First tip about respecting the home's character is the best. I just bought my first home a year ago. One of the things I saw over and over again during my house hunt was people adding shaker style wall panelling to homes that had no other shaker style elements. It clashed and was obviously not original. The home I settled on has lots of beautiful moulding, but in a more traditional style. I took this even further by panelling a few more walls, but making sure to match the edge profiles and spacing to the existing trim. You genuinely cannot tell that the new panelling is not original to the house, and it makes it all feel that much more cohesive and luxurious. The whole vibe is more traditional than my tastes used to be, but it has been cool to let the traditional / Georgian elements of the house influence and fuse with my own design style.
