I had something similar with my wrist where it hurt to put pressure on or to bend my wrist/thumb too far... it turned out to be RSI and it stopped hurting after a while but can occasionally flare up again, hope you get sorted!

Are you looking to be able to change it? What about have a collection to switch (think of dual side stud )?
