Lipedema can also present in the trunk and arms. Thank you SO much for bringing awareness to this condition!

11 percent of us have it. I believe the diagnosis has buried by insurance companies who don't want to pay for treatment

This is F’ING scary! I dropped out of high school in the 1970’s and I’ve known what Lipedema is since I was a young girl. If it is not taught in a 21st century med school….something is WRONG!

I have asked 2 different doctors.
One laughed.
The other said it was "just fat".
I realized I knew more than them about my body.

I was diagnosed with lipedema yesterday. Mine is very moderate but I feel overwhelmed after so many years and finally getting an explanation.

Thank you! I have lipodema in my legs & upper arms. It does not respond to calorie restriction. We are shamed by our doctors. I follow "sturdy women" on utube. Full of good information 😊

Good Idea to do this. So many things doctors don't know. When diagnosed 30 years ago most doctors didn't know anything about fibromyalgia many do still not believe it's real.

Thank you! It's so frustrating that doctors don't know about it. And being told by a doctor that you are just fat affects your self esteem. And then even when you tell people about it, they don't believe you because the general public don't know of this disease.

Good of you to mention this. I think a lot of woman, and a lot are affected!, are being made out being weak for not loosing the weight. I hope, hearing that It is not their lack of will power, that it gives them hope and positivity.

This is not caused by overeating and poor diet like the people on that show. This is triggered often by hormones. Many women get immediately after puberty and/or total hysterectomy. If interested, search Dr. Karen Herbst's articles

"MIstreated" is the correct word. Misdia gnosed and also Mistreated, as in a "abused". would be more exact. I read about Lipedema in a book. I have known about it for years. I am not a medical professional. It affects mostly women, so not commonly known in patriarchal medicine.

I will also add that as others here have mentioned it is painful and also emotionally distressing. Thank you for looking into this. ❤

This runs in my family. My petite Grandmother had one weirdly large lower leg. My mother severe swelling and constantly wore compression hose. And my sister is a much worse case suffering all from hoshimotos. ( Connection??🤔). I have light swelling, wear compression hose but also have always restricted my diet to mostly vegetarian, no processed foods. No dairy, gluten, sugar, since I was 17. Exercise every day. Now 61. Leg Weight has always still been an issue. There is no research it seems. Not even recognized as a coverable disease in Australia. No one has diagnosed me either.

I’m so glad you are highlighting this. I also had never heard of it until a sweet patient of my educated me on it and sent me links and resources. I was also blown away especially knowing it’s closely related to hormones and hormonal changes. We need more research and treatment options for these patients!!

I haven't been diagnosed. Thanks you. I get to understand what's going on with my body. It's really painful no one seems to understand. Thanks a million, I will keep researching now that I have more a name for this disease and discuss this with my doctor that calls it arthritis.🙏

Thank you! Unfortunately, many people are not diagnosed until stage 3. Family. Friends, and many doctors think it is poor lifestyle choices.

Walking in chest deep water is an amazing way to move. The water is built in compression.

It's also very painful. Most typical overweight people don't have adipose tissue, fat, that is painful. Also, Dercums disease, non healing type or diffuse type, causes diet resistant weight loss and is even more painful. I know because I suffer.

I went to school with a girl who was normal to the waist but had giant hips and butt, literally double her torso width. Her mom was the same. It was hard for her to walk and it was a real deformity.

I think I’ve started developing this! I’ve been heavy most my life but it’s been distributing so differently lately than it ever has. My arms, lower belly and thighs have a different sort of grainy fat deposits now. Makes the struggle to lose weight feel even more impossible. I know there was a lady on YT that lost over 150lbs, had her skin surgery and now she’s developing this and she’s so frustrated!!
