I have a PhD in History from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. My area was Medieval History and spent a life time I am retired now but believe me at the end of it all I would say that I would study History all over again. It offers a lifetime of adventure and the intellectual stimulation is incomparable. As i said I have no regrets taking History

I love your videos, but I must disagree here. Most people don't study history with the INTENTION of becoming a historian, like how most maths students don't study it to become a mathematician. History is inherently different to vocational fields like nursing and teaching where the degree to employment pipeline is clearly mapped out for you.

This gives off the illusion that history is unemployable as most students don't end up in a job 100% related to their degree. When a history major goes into another field, people see this as "oh look, they couldn't find a job in history" when in fact, it should be "look how history opens so many doors!"

I am about to graduate with a bachelor's degree in history and have received graduate scheme offers in management consulting, public policy, and data science. My history major differentiated myself from the thousands of business/STEM students applying for these roles.

My advice to history students is to keep an open mind. Many are too adamant about getting a "history-related job" to see opportunities beyond museum curating/archiving/teaching etc. Your history major is very valuable, but make sure you use it right.

History should combined with journalism to help in production of documentaries.

To all the history majors out there, I just got a job in HR. There is hope in finding a job. Just customize your resume to the job your applying to and use any work experience to your advantage.

I’m studying history now and here’s some tips I’ve learned so far:
- NETWORK. If you get along with your teachers, you can potentially make connections that can help you get your foot in the door to careers.
- since history is kinda general, you need to have one or two possible careers in mind and will probably do better also having a minor.
- work on your writing and analytical skills. Having those strong skills will go a long way.

History is my favourite subject! I didn’t like it until college because they care more about facts instead of trying to remember dates. Maybe one day I will get one when I retire for fun.

My history professor told me the last time they had a history staff opening there were 150 applicants competing for 2 positions. 70 of them had their PhD. And this was a community college. So needless to say I decided to take history as a minor lol

I'm a History major with no regrets! However, I attend a school with a fantastic work-study (co-op) program in which I've been able to self-fund my degree. Not sure I'd recommend going into humanities or social sciences unless you have similar funding options available and/or some realistic career plans in mind, though.

This video is a really fair analysis, in my opinion.

My History degree is going to go towards my work towards Law school. History Majors should think of their AA or BA in history as a stepping stone. Yes, you want to study other important and relevant majors but, I’m quite certain it’s worth is what YOU make it.

I am a graduating senior high school student that plans to take History as my major. I understand the sentiment of Americans that this degree is generally worthless and low-paying, but fortunately, I am not an American, but a Filipino. I don't have to worry about student debt because it doesn't exist in state universities in my country. I am planning to enroll to the University of the Philippines Diliman, the most academically prestigious tertiary school in my country, and the tuition there for undergraduates is totally free. Not to mention that, even though it is not an in-demand job, there are still a lot of job opportunities, as long as I know my goals. So, I already know from the very beginning that a History degree will going to be worth it for me.

And besides, since childhood, I already know in my heart that I really want to be a historian, that this is the career path that I absolutely know that I will not regret.

Nevertheless, wish me luck.

I majored in History and unlike a lot of people I used it to get specialized in fashion history and beside that I studied culture through traveling. I ended up combining my knowledge of culture, fashion and history and am now a fashion designer and I spread my work throughout less fortunate countries. My wage is a solid 40k a year without bonuses and I get to help people so right now, I am pretty content :)

Hey man, another good one! I agree 100% with you.

I considered history too when I was in school. I believe one of the issues with a history major is like you said -- that it is too general. Specifically, when you look at many degree plans, you take a class where you have to learn the history of the subject matter. For example, I had a double degree: first in economics and the second in languages/linguistics. For economics, I had to take economic doctrine class that pretty much taught the thought of economics in western civilization, how to think like the philosophers intuitively to arrive at their economic conclusions and its general history. With linguistics, my language was German, and I was required to take both a linguistics class about the field of linguistics and its historical development plus German language and Germanic peoples' history. Long story short, you learn the history of your given major, so even if you wanted to work for a museum or become a writer for the common history major jobs, you can probably do the same while not decreasing your chances at full employment by picking a specific major outside of history.

I recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in History and a minor in political science. I am not interested in any of those fields. Majoring in history is tough, however you learn critical thinking, the ability to research, the ability to write, and the ability to analyze. Just because you major in history does not mean that you have to be a teacher or work in a museum. You can strive and be successful in other fields. At the end of the day its up to you, and when you do get that interview that is not in the history field, make sure to sell yourself

having history major in the Philippines is a privilege and honor. It is by far one of the most demanded especially when you're looking to be somewhat educator. As for me, I chose history major and psychology to get in line with my target career path which is law. And history is fine for law schools and even applicable most of the time. Not to mention that I have my teacher from a very prestigious univ in the country telling me that I have a good chance of getting one of the most prestigious career one could ever take in my country. So, don't worry, I am not upset with your video. It motivated me even more.
