Had a mate call asking if he could hit the water to try catch his first Spanish Mackerel, the started with a magnificent sunrise whilst crossing the bar. Once we were clear of the bar we put out two troll set-ups one with a Zerek Speed Donkey the other Classic Lures Bluewater F200. These two would have to be my two most favourite hardbody troll lures, they have accounted for a lot fish and good fish be that. Anyway back to the day at hand we had two lures out making our way to some ground the we intended to fish for Spanish within 5-10mins trolling we had a double hook up, we boated them two small YFT and stuck the lures out once again not even time to get the boat back up not speed we were on once again Dave fighting this fish I retrieved the other lure only several metres into the retrieve BOOM the hit from another fish as it starts stripping line we now have another double, boating another two YFT we decided to keep the hard bodies in the boat and made our way to the grounds. Upon arrival we put out two Tweed Bait bonitos on home made chin weighted rigs and set our pace at around 5-10kph (pre swim your bait before sending it back into the spread/line-up to ensure its swimming correctly). Not even 5mins later pppppffffffffzzzzzzzzzzzz the sound of the drag screaming. I held my hand out as an invite to the action, Dave didn't need to be told twice, after a couple good runs and with a smile from ear to ear he managed to land his first Spanish ever. With the target in the boat we turned her around and made our for home as we both had plans that afternoon, We thought we may as well stick the lures out and cruise home comfortable. We managed to troll the whole way back without a touch so I knocked it outta gear and we started pulling them in then crunch I got a hit and I was away nothing special but managed a nice little spotted mackerel as an extra ingredient.
