Finding Your Mission

Above and beyond having a job, what we really need to power our professional future is a sense of mission. A film that discusses what a mission is, and how we might find our own.

FURTHER READING

“Missions are things we tend to associate with astronauts. If someone at a party asked you what you did, and you said you were involved on a mission of some kind, people would look at you sort of strangely. But in truth, we’d all benefit from focusing in on the purpose of our lives so that we can refer to them as missions of one kind or another…”

What the world needs most is quality education. In countries where it’s free, it’s in need of serious improvement, and in many places it’s not a priority. It’s the obvious solution to the world’s problems.
Yeah, that’s my mission.

It's beautiful how you're able to put a lot of my inner thoughts and beliefs, which are firm enough for me but difficult to express in casual conversations, into clear and concise films. Thank you.

It's beautiful how people are pointing out various world's needs because at the same time they are showing what kind of missions they're more involved in.

Amazing! - this is so true. I had so many plans & ideas, but decided to actually write them down to see which made sense. Now I'm also down to just 2 missions in life!

Dropping the ''change the world' and 'what society needs' ego bullshit helped immensely. Chances are my soul came into this world to enjoy, to experience, to play, to create not to be burdened with hugely exaggerated tasks of only relative importance, or slave to the imposed ideals set by society.

This is exactly what i started to do a couple of years ago. After some tremendous griefs i slightly changed my way of thinking things in life. Took a while but now i'm happy. I'm committed: i'm on mission. I sometimes imagine me as a soldier who has to fight on the front line; this push me through difficult tasks.

The good part in life is that you don't always need a mission to earn experience : you can start drawing for fun and then be part of the School of Life because you want to improve people's life!

Thank you. I'm currently at a crossroads in my life trying to figure out what to do and this helps me so much.

My mission: to utilize space to solve our problems here on Earth. I think it's very important that we find ways of maintaining our resource-intensive societies without killing our planet. I also happen to have skills that support this view. My specific ambition in this regard is to engineer a propulsion system from Earth to space that's 1000x cheaper than a rocket. That's the first step: access to space. Once that's figured out, then the fun can truly begin. I know most people don't prioritize things this way, but space will slowly become one of the most important domains of human life on Earth in the next several decades. We will use it for energy, resources, research, manufacturing, entertainment and leisure, and all manner of the industrialized activities that make our existence on this beautiful, pale blue rock tenable. There are other things one could create a mission about. This particular one affects everyone in 40 years, so I find it prudent to spend time working on.

My promise was to do good if I ever got out of the gutter that was my life. I've been homeless and it's no joke. Now recovered, I can finally focus on my life long mission (always had one) instead of just surviving. What chilling timing, very accurate.

I like making mini missions for myself. It's easier, and prevents me from becoming overwhelmed!

Years ago I had a religious group knock on my door and ask me what my purpose in life was, I answered him squarely, 'I want to help to stop climate change'. His response was that nobody had ever been able to answer that question when he asked it. I know what my skills and interests are, the legal system and working in law, so I am now working towards becoming a barrister so that I can help change the law to make the government act on climate change. Literally, #Lifegoals

This is exactly what i needed. I thought that for some reason i can't complete project on my own because i was always distracted by other things that also interest me. I always likes this quality of me that has so many interest and willingness to learn something new, but lately I've been thinking maybe this is exactly what hinders me to be great at anything and just stops me at being "good enough". As always School of Life never disappoints. I always finds topics i need ❤

An outstanding piece once again. The subtle and an important/crucial difference between mission and an ambition....thank you very much.

My missions: reduce animal suffering ( my job is at an animal sanctuary) and make the world a little more joyful with art ( need to do art to feel sane)
