My main love for Altra is the toe-box. My toes are screwed up from pointy boxes. I have learned to love their zero-drop.

I run in mostly zero drop shoes due to my running form. I like to run with full arch spring and anything over 5mm interrupts that or feels off. Ive run in Topos and Altras, but prefer Altra. I actually have a narrow foot, but love the wide toe box and have no issues with it as long as the shoe fits well around my heels. My suggestion for you Seth, is try a women’s shoe from Altra for a better fit. I have trained my running form via the “Pose”method with a forefoot strike and have been able to increase my distance running since that change. I could totally be an Altra Rep, since I have run in all of their shoes!

Hey Seth! I was all in on Altra from 2017 to 2020. I had been a heel striker and zero drop not only helped me stretch my foot/calf but also helped when I was trying to correct my form and land more mid to forefoot. Raced in road races in Escalante and Torins. But since discovering your channel and other Shoetubers, I realized how different drop and brand shoes can help me for different runs. Now I find zero drop from easy and recovery too!

getting old zero drop is easier on your joints. I didn't start running in Altra because of zero drop - I chose them for the foot shaped toebox. I still occasionally wear 4 - 6mm "heels" New Balance Rebel series, Atreyu Voyager .. I rarely wear Hoka these days because of their narrow toebox. When Altra start to introduce Ego to this shoe it will be amazing!

Hi Seth! It was an Altra review that brought me to your channel! Which I love and keeps me inspired every day. I am now an Altra convert since having to have steroid injections for mortons neuromas in both feet ... I also own some other foot shape shoes and, in fact, can no longer wear "normal" shape shoes at all. But I am happy with this as it means no pain! (Although I still watch all your shoe reviews!😂) I've found that even wide fit brands are not enough to let my feet spread to their natural position. The zero drop have definitely helped strengthen the whole backs of my legs & I noticed how much my form naturally altered having previously been a fan of the asics gliderides (RIP !) . I just wish other brands had a foot shape option too! Thanks again for your wonderful channel and sharing your experience, expertise and wonderful family with us all. Warmest wishes, Leanne x

One of the reasons why I own altras is the wide toe box. I would not support your suggestion. Great video!!!

garmin. As a runner, hiker, pilot their products are not only great but critical. I use a garmin watch, garmin inReach keeps me “found” in the back country and garmin nav flies my autopilot through the clouds. 😀

I am indeed all in on zero drop guy. here is why
1. I started running 2 years ago fully barefoot and have slowly intergrated foam in to my rotation as i've increase mileage. Altra are the only shoes that feel natural and allow me to go through the natural gate cycle that barefoot running has tought me.
2. Foot shape (not shoe shape) only shoes im confident won't give me blisters or cause numbness.
3. them sick calf gains

GARMIN for several reasons, a few of which I cannot go into. First of all, I love their watches and have been wearing them for 10+ years. Second, customer service. The Garmin CSR's are athletes who use the products. When you call, they *rarely* have to look something up in a computer. Instead, they can talk from both their experience using the product and what is obviously great training. Third, sometimes things go wrong. They have never let me down, whether it's been in warranty or way out of warranty. And they do it happily. Fourth, when they release a new product, the software is usually rolled out to older products and we get the features that are available in the new product line. I don't have to upgrade every year. Fifth, marriage. At this point, I'm so married to the 10+ years of data I've amassed on their website that I couldn't imagine giving it up.

I'm pretty sure people buy Altra for the wide toebox more than the zero drop aspect.

Yesterday I placed my foot inside an Altra for the first time and I'm in love ❤️
I have booked myself in for a fitting tomorrow and hope to be running in a pair of these bad boys all the way home from the shop.
I have a wide foot and have struggled with shoes for a while 🙏

Zero drop plus wide equates stability with a lower risk of injury for me. I love the roomy toe box.

I strictly run in Altra's because I have extremely wide feet and the roomy toe-box helps out tremendously. Also, I'm more of a forefoot/midfoot striker, and the zero-drop platform helps me to run more naturally and efficiently.

Just purchased a pair of Timp 3 this morning since they were 105 bucks. I've been running in Altra's for 4 years or so now and like you I wear them on easy day's and to just kind of stretch out the legs. I've mostly stayed with their road running shoes but decided to try their trail shoes as well.

The Escalante Racer fit my feet like socks. Perfect lockdown and feeling. Plus, super breathable for this Singapore weather. It'd be perfect if they were a tiny softer (normal Escalante) and maybe 10/20g lighter.

I developed neuromas in the ball of my foot and since they are now taking up space, I needed to create some room by switching to the Altra Torin 4.5 plush. My new orthotics only fit into them because of the width so I wear them all day if I can. This has kept me pain free for the past 4 months. I’m a huge fan of the splay and the zero drop feels natural.

?seth I am very curious about this: i know you do countless miles per week, but I was wondering if you do any barefoot running at all? Even as little as doing strides barefoot on the grass, turf, etc. And do you think that a little barefoot running is useful for us in strengthening?

I love Altra for the wide toe box and the zero drop. I don't exclusively run in Altra but I like to challenge myself and strengthen everything in the calves and ankles when im training. When it comes to race time a 6-8 mm drop feels like there is an extra something pushing me forward onto my toes.
