To anyone who's played Portal 1, this song was the anthem of panic. Watching GLaDOS get rebooted while you sit there, powerless to do anything, trying DESPERATELY to get out of the pod, trying to do _something, _ followed by GLaDOS's familiarly _hateful_ voice saying "Oh. It's you." is more terrifying than any scare in a horror game.

One thing I noticed about this scene is how GLaDOS treated Wheatley, she didn't even bat an eye or say anything to him, as all of her dialogue was directed to the player and player only, she even just crushed him and threw him out like trash




And the only time she did actually even care about him, was when he was breaking Chell out of the test track, and that's only because he was interfering

When I turned 13 my parents gave me this game, I just knew that the game was a sequel to the portal, a game that I never played but knew its end. When I got to this scene and I saw her waking up, I felt a horrible chill down my back, the worst thing was not that but I realized that she was not even upset with Chell, she did not feel resentment or sense of revenge, only towards what she was doing for She was somewhat irritated, but at no time was she genuinely angry, that terrified me and I don't know why.

This song is so perfect at capturing how powerful, dangerous, and awe inspiring GLaDOs was as a character.

Everyone loves talking about how enormous GLaDOS is on the album cover, but nobody seems to understand what a genius decision it is. Sure, GLaDOS doesn't consume the skybox, but she's in control of everyone and everything throughout the entire facility. She can rearrange hundreds of rooms on a dime and fabricate tests near instantaneously. The only reason you continuously survive is because she chooses to torment you rather than give you an easy death. Sure, GLaDOS isn't physically that gigantic, but the sense of omnipresence she instills means she might as well be. It's not about how she looks, it's about how she feels, and she feels exactly like the album suggests. Notice too that she's not looking at the ant sized human on the ground, but instead directly at you.
