Cryptid By Region Iceland

Be sure to pack some warm clothes for today's Cryptid By Region trip. It may get a tad bit cold but there are plenty of cryptids to discover. Also, I am sorry for the pronunciations this time. I couldn't find a lot of examples of people saying many of these names. I did what I could though and even included the spelling of the words.

Ok, skate mother is legitimately cool as hell. 1/2 skate, 1/2 Cthulhu, all awesome.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Iceland was just the one place on earth that the Pleistocene Ice age continued, so theres mammoths, woolly rhinos, bison, musk Ox and cave lions.

I am glad you covered the little people, by far the most prolific of Icelands cryptid inhabitants

Probably the most interesting list of Cryptids I've ever seen, Iceland is pretty unique.

The translucent larva like skin of the marine Hafmaour reminds me of the skinless appearance of the Nuckleevee...

Aside from pronunciation, this is bangin' A decent part of my heritage is Icelandic. Nobody talks about encounters with Icelandic cryptids.

Yes, very interesting. Icelandic people are a colorful bunch of folks with interesting culture and heritage, and I knew they must have a fascinating assortment of cryptids as well, but just wasn't familiar with most of these. Different topic - Ben, have you ever covered my favorite cryptid, the Moongwa? A giant grey feline, larger than a lion or tiger, said to inhabit the coconut groves and forests of east Africa. Not as well documented as the Nandi bear or Mkele Mbembe but even more intriguing, IMO. Keep up the good work Ben, I really enjoy these and learn something new with every vid!

This was a GREAT ONE!!! So many unique creatures unlike anywhere else in the world! I think it was the first one that instantly thought it was most likely a Pangolin... but they aren't much bigger than a cat. It also reminded me of an armadillo too.... Who knows maybe one of these was let loose on the island at one point (or probably 2 of them - a male and a female) and were sited by a few people over the span of a few years but died off. But then the sightings were talked about and the story was handed down generation after generation, each time the story gaining a bit more embellishment each generation. It's not like they had much else for entertainment stuck on a small livable patch of land on an island made of volcanoes that's covered in ice and mud. LOL
But I think that's how a LOT of the very old "myths" were born. At one time they were still crypids because they were occasionally still spotted. But after a long drought of new stories they become myth and legend. If we aren't careful Bigfoot could go this way. But I do appreciate the people that actually go out looking have a very high respect for them. :)

11:45. Do trolls count? 11:50. What about the Norse Berserker Cult's ties to lycanthropy?

Ask and so shall I receive. Wow, that's a fast turn around since myself and many others brought up Iceland. I've always thought Iceland was fascinating and it is one of the few places left on my "bucket list." I can't wait to see what the lore/cryptids/mythos of the region has in store! Thanks for always being to responsive to your audience! Guess that means it's time for a new request, hmmm...Alright, I've got 2 for you. I think remote and somewhat isolated places can have really interesting myths and folklore, which usually translates to cryptids as well, so how about Patagonia and Madagascar? Both are isolated, for distinctly different reasons, but still isolated none the less. They are half a world away from each other, so they may each be distinct enough to make good episodes. Not sure, but I think they would be fun. Keep up the good work!

I really was not surprise by the video. (Except for the Merman.) It's natural to have folklore on the sea. But it was nice historic view, thank you.
