I found a similar one a week ago on our flea bazaar. It started up but could not measure resistances. The issue was... in a tiny 0805 1.5k Ohm SMD resistor. Internally it's a typical 7106/7126 based device like a DT-832.
PS, my device does NOT have any delays in the continuity mode! Here the continuity mode is implemented in the chip, on my device it's LM358 based.

I have 2 of this Multimeter, the battery you can get it from the dollars store, not all dollars store have it, It works well for me, the buzzer sound lound , It work well around in my house when I need it, I like it .

Agree.. bad choice for the battery type.🤦🏻‍♂️
I think 2xAAA could still keep it small in form factor. Maybe the overall dimension would end up bigger but not that much, for trade with happy users when replacing the battery.
