Thank you so much for the early glimpse; for your take on the novel, the author's writing, & your compare/contrast of Ng's previous novel (which I loved and am so eager to get my hands on this latest, tomorrow!!). Wish there was a midnight release party on this one... I'd so be there!!

I love this book because I still can’t decide who’s side I’m truly on with the case. I kept being pulled to both sides! I liked the doll conversation because i thought it brought up great points, but thought I found it ironic that the birth mother couldn’t have afforded those types of luxuries even if there were some around.

I loved this review. It gave me a really thorough and clear summary of what I had to expect of the novel, as well as background information, a hint of interpretation and a thematic overview, all without spoiling any plotpoints. In short, it was perfect. I will put Little Fires Everywhere on my tbr this second. Thank you for the wonderful video!

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I'm so glad to hear that her distinctive narrative style and subtleties carry over into her sophomore release as well, because that's really what got to me when I first read EINTY. I can't wait to finally read this!

Great review! I read this last week and really enjoyed it, but I do prefer Everything I Never Told You. Saying that her previous book was "tighter" is a perfect descriptor. There was so much jammed packed in this book. I found some parts kind of pointless/boring (for lack of a better term) and other parts I wished were expanded upon. I was adopted from Korea as a baby into a white family and I found that part of the story particularly interesting. I was literally torn between both sides and I think she did an excellent job at portraying the feelings of the characters without telling the reader who is right and who is wrong. I feel ya on the dolls growing up! For my 3rd birthday my aunt gave me Polynesian Barbie because that's as close as she could get! Haha

A story about motherhood, adolescence, race, rules, right and wrong, and so much more. This is a fascinating book with a lot going for it. This novel is amazing! I regret not reading it sooner, thanks

Okay, this sounds FABULOUS. Now I just have to get through the 40+ books I already have on my Kindle and bookshelf that need reading and I might let myself buy this...

I’ve now finished both her books and I’d like to thank you for introducing me to her. Little Fires has been my favorite book so far of 2018.

I've just read (finally) the book and was seeking out others thoughts - LOVE your breakdown of the characters and how there were lots of little fires, not just the house. such a compelling read, so much to think about, my favorite kind of story. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I have to say, as a law student, the custody battle drove me completely insane, it doesn't make sense and it isn't realistic, a judge would never let a lawyer determine someone as a better mom because of her ethnicy (that was literally the only thing she had going for Bebe, no other reason for her to have Mirabelle whatsoever besides the fact she was Chinese), OR determine adoptive parents unfit because they're not from the same background, it gave me the idea that had the baby been adopted by a rich, Chinese family, then Bebe would have just been fine with leaving her with them, which is just stupid, I feel like the custody battle was useless in discussing ethnic identity, because the problem would have been the same if Bebe and Mirabelle were white. The Mia story drove me insane because she was almost canonized as a saint even if she destroyed the Riley's lives by taking THEIR baby away, and in the end I feel Celeste Ng had very little empathy for the adoptive parents (that were basically living anyone's worst nightmare when adopting) or the couple that hired Mia to be their surrogate. She barely had any repercussions to her actions and her whole storyline just ended up feeling empty.

I agonized over the choice between this book and Sing Unburied Sing for my BOTM pick. Your review makes me glad I picked Little Fires. And I'm also on my library list for SUS so pretty solid all around win. ;)

I really would love to read a Celeste Ng story because she's so highly acclaimed and she represents the Chinese, which I am myself!
