I'm a bus driver. There's a manual button above the door. We press it and jump out, and it closes behind us. We have approximately 2 seconds to leave before the door closes. We have had some people like Barry last week get stuck in the door, and Lenny last month didn't get out in time, and his bus self-destructed.

BUT!
There's a spring pressured flap like latched door about a foot to the right of the main doors, on the right corner of the busses. Open the flap, there's another latch flap thang, pull it, and the doors pneumatically open. This part may be locked.

I was a school bus driver here in PA ( I specify Incase states are different), we shut the bus off, I always did my mileage papers inside before getting off, there is a lever above the door that deactivates the electrical to the door and becomes manual. You just push on it and it will fold and once you step out you then do the same by pushing it shut and then lock it with a key. 😂 Valid question for those who don't know though!

That’s a great question Jason! I can help you with this one, I have seen how they do it! On the outside of the bus, there’s a little box that can be opened with a key, and when the busdriver does that, he can pull a leverage which put the door closed.
